Job summary

Symbotic is seeking an Advanced Mechanical Engineer to join the Cell Engineering team. You will design electromechanical components for warehouse automation, support production, and review manufacturing docs as part of a multidisciplinary group.

Responsibilities include developing tools for robotic cells, validating components, and assisting in commissioning and documentation. The role requires hands-on mechanical engineering experience and strong teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in hands-on mechanical engineering or design.
  • Pertinent experience in robotics industry.
  • SolidWorks; AutoCAD; FEA knowledge a plus.
  • PLM experience preferred.
  • Experience in design and drafting standards.
  • Understanding of fabrication processes (turning, milling, welding).
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Autonomy and ability to manage priorities.
  • Problem-solving and teamwork skills.

What we need

We are looking for an Advanced Mechanical Engineer to join our Cell Engineering team. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for working on the creation, modification and improvements of robotic equipment used in warehouse automation in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. You will work as a member of the team in the conceptualization, design, analysis, fabrication and testing of Symbotic's automated material handling equipment.


What we do

The Cell Engineering team is responsible for developing the robotic work cells and automation equipment that enable us to palletize, depalletize, and manipulate products and cases. The team develops equipment in-house but also works with 3rd party suppliers and design partners to specify complete material handling solutions.


What you’ll do

  • Create and design components of electromechanical machinery and systems.


  • Provide technical support for the production and implementation of projects.


  • Prepare and review drawings and other manufacturing documentation.


  • Develop and modify tools and equipment devices used in robotic cells and automation equipment.


  • Visit customers to retrieve data.


  • Search for products and components, contact suppliers.

  • Participate in the elaboration of installation, maintenance and operations manuals.


  • Guide colleagues in their designing of parts, mechanisms, weldments and industrial structures.


  • Elaborate and document test procedures for prototype validation.


  • Assist teammates with documentation and Product Lifecycle Management tasks as needed.


  • Ensure a homogenous understanding of design intent across disciplines (electrical, controls, robotics, and vision).


  • Aid in coaching and developing less experienced team members.


What you’ll need

  • BS in Mechanical Engineeringdiscipline or any other equivalent experience.


  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a hands-on mechanical engineering or design role.


  • Pertinent experience in the robotics industry or other relevant field.


  • Knowledge of SolidWorks. AutoCAD, other CAD software and FEAis a plus.


  • PLM experience a plus.


  • Experience in design and drafting standards.


  • Understanding of fabrication processes (turning, milling, welding, etc.).


  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Work, Outlook).


  • Autonomy and ability to manage priorities.


  • Ability to resolve and analyze problems.


  • Team player skills, with discipline and concerned for quality.


  • Flexibility to work under pressure and in an environment where priorities change.


Our environment

  • Up to 20% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.


  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $101,000.00 - $138,600.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
