Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical engineering design, equipment selection, and piping systems across complex industrial projects. In this role, you will contribute to projects ranging from equipment retrofits and facility upgrades to the development of new production facilities. You will support diverse industries, including manufacturing, bioprocessing, chemicals, energy, food and personal care, and shipbuilding. As a technical leader, you will guide engineering teams, collaborate directly with clients, and ensure designs meet stringent safety, quality, and regulatory standards. You will oversee projects throughout the engineering lifecycle, from initial planning and design through construction and commissioning. This remote opportunity combines technical expertise, project leadership, and client engagement to deliver reliable, efficient, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Accountabilities
  • Translate client requests for proposals, pre-bid discussions, and project requirements into clearly defined engineering scopes, execution plans, and technical deliverables.
  • Establish and document the mechanical systems Basis of Design, including design assumptions, qualifications, clarifications, and applicable project criteria.
  • Perform and review detailed engineering calculations to verify the safety, performance, and code compliance of mechanical systems and selected equipment.
  • Size and select mechanical equipment, prepare technical specifications and datasheets, and evaluate vendor bids to support procurement decisions.
  • Conduct advanced piping stress analysis using specialized engineering software, including CAESAR II and NozzlePro, as appropriate for project requirements.
  • Lead mechanical and piping engineering activities across projects involving equipment retrofits, industrial facility upgrades, and new production installations.
  • Coordinate mechanical equipment requirements with piping design teams, 3D modeling specialists, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and accurate design deliverables.
  • Mentor and guide engineers and designers, provide technical direction, and oversee the quality and completeness of equipment and piping scopes.
  • Review engineering calculations, piping isometrics, layouts, piping specifications, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to maintain high technical and quality standards.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with client requirements, corporate procedures, and applicable industry codes and standards, including IBC, ASME, API, PIP, and NFPA.
  • Collaborate with clients, facility owners, construction managers, and project teams to validate project costs, evaluate design alternatives, and identify value-engineering opportunities.
  • Review contractor submittals for equipment and materials, confirming alignment with approved specifications and design intent.
  • Respond to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs), resolve field engineering issues, and provide timely, technically sound recommendations during construction.
  • Develop construction verification and commissioning plans to support safe installation, system validation, and successful facility handover.
  • Support Design/Build and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project delivery while balancing technical requirements, schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Travel to project sites and client locations as needed, with travel requirements of up to 25%.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • At least 12 years of relevant industry experience, including a demonstrated history of leading engineering teams and delivering complex design projects.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain additional state licenses as required by project locations.
  • Proven experience delivering Design/Build and EPC projects, ideally within industrial, manufacturing, or process-oriented environments.
  • U.S. citizenship, as required for client project assignments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% based on project and client needs.
  • Strong technical expertise in mechanical equipment design, equipment selection, piping engineering, and engineering calculations.
  • Experience with piping stress analysis software, particularly CAESAR II; familiarity with NozzlePro is beneficial.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards, including ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, PIP, and API standards.
  • Significant experience designing and implementing industrial facility retrofits, equipment upgrades, and mechanical systems improvements, preferably in manufacturing or shipbuilding environments.
