Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods for small projects or assignments.
• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes using Bechtel standards and BSAPs.
• Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
• Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts with specialty groups, clients, and contractors.
• Mentors junior mechanical team members and provides technical assistance to project staff.

Project Overview:

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities:

• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineeringmethods, techniques, procedures and criteria for a small size project or assignment insupport of a global business unitor staff group to include the preparation of originaldesigns layouts, details, drawings and specifications

• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components andprocesses utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), designstandards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)

• Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs,reports or proposals

• Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas withspecialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor,contractors, construction and other functional groups

• When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineeringpersonnel for specific tasks or projects

• Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and willinteract with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agencypersonnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues

• Provides assistance toproject and construction management inidentifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and inaddressing issues as they arise during project execution

• Mentors and assists more junior mechanical team members

• Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installationand maintenance

• Selects components and equipment based on analysis ofspecifications and reliability

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• 10+ years of progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering but may include other relevant types of engineering including startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants utilities, process plants or engineering/construction firms.

• Technical knowledge of mechanical engineering systems and design, including the ability to perform or review engineering calculations such as CFD analysis for equipment within buildings, hot air recirculation (HAR) studies to optimize outdoor dry cooler layouts, PUE and energy-efficiency calculations for Data center projects, and mechanical equipment selection criteria.

• Knowledge in a wide range of mechanical equipment such as Chiller packages, HVAC equipment, Compressors, pumps, skid mounted packages, heat transfer equipment, Pressure Vessels, Scrubbers, Fire-protection and exhaust systems.

• Knowledge of Data center projects, with experience in mechanical cooling systems and equipment, including cooling architecture, chilled water systems, chiller plants, CDUs, wall-mounted CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers/dry coolers, HVAC systems, humidification, and hot aisle containment.Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
