Job summary

Arista Networks in Santa Clara, CA seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design of next-generation switches. You will produce 3D models and drawings for prototyping and manufacturing, working with cross-functional teams to meet tight schedules and customer requirements.

You will manage BOMs, ECOs, and PLM with Agile, collaborate on PCB layouts with ECAD, and support thermal and structural analyses, with occasional travel to suppliers and sites in the Bay Area.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years experience.
  • Experience using Pro/Engineer (PTC Creo) for design and drawing generation.
  • Familiarity with PDMLink (PTC Windchill) and Creo Simulate.
  • Experience designing sheet metal parts using tooling guidelines.
  • Knowledge of thermal management and liquid cooling is a plus.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience designing for data-center equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical modules or chassis and ensure market readiness.
  • Create 3D MCAD models and provide detailed drawings for prototyping and manufacturing.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews and coordinate with CAD/Electrical teams.
  • Structure BOMs and manage releases using PLM tools (Agile) and ECO processes.
  • Provide PCB 3D drawings and assist ECAD teams; address PCB placement concerns.
  • Coordinate with CM and suppliers on DFM and manufacturing issues.
  • Support lab validation, tests, and troubleshooting; travel to suppliers as needed.
  • Participate in production sustaining meetings to resolve issues.

Job description

  • In each project you will work with a cross functional team to ensure that the end solution is brought to market quickly and meets our customer’s needs
  • This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and is responsible for the mechanical design of the next module or the next chassis that we bring to market. Arista produces switches with a high number of ports per rack unit
  • This creates challenges in mechanical design. You will be faced with the usual requirements, like structure, cooling, EMC, safety, manufacturability, cost, appearance, tolerances, documentation, conforming to a family of existing products, along with tight schedules
  • Explore solutions suggested by team members and add new solutions that blend all of the requirements
  • Implement the selected design using Creo 3D CAD and provide all the necessary drawings, critical to function dimensions and 3D files to allow the design to be prototyped and manufactured
  • Schedule and manage peer and cross functional team reviews of your design and participate in reviews of other engineers designs
  • Structure bill of materials (BOM), release and change the product using product lifecycle management tools (Agile)
  • Provide 3D models to be used in thermal simulations
  • Provide PCB design drawings and 3D files to the ECAD design team. Work with the electrical engineer and PCB layout to address placement concerns. Check the final design of the PCB
  • Work with CMs and suppliers to address any DFM concerns they have
  • Work in the lab to check prototypes against the 3D MCAD design and debug design issues
  • Communicate manufacturing issues found in the lab to the CM
  • Some travel to suppliers to troubleshoot issues or to help expedite a build is required
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to resolve production sustaining issues
