Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Knoxville, TN team. You will deliver mechanical design, calculations, and drawings for generation, industrial, and government projects.

The role requires experience across design, procurement, and construction, with a focus on safety and compliance. Applicants should have strong knowledge of ASME/ANSI/API/NFPA codes, and proficiency with 3D design tools.

Qualifications

  • Experience with detailed calculations and review of engineering deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare discipline engineering designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Define project objectives, estimates, and requirements.
  • Scope, estimate, organize, and coordinate engineering projects with complex requirements.
  • Perform technical and coordination checks of deliverables for conformance to design requirements.
  • Direct project design and supervise development of engineering documents.

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team based in Knoxville, TN in delivering a wide range of projects for our Generation, Industrial, and Government clients. Experience with design, engineering, procurement, and construction processes in multi-discipline projects is required.

What We’re Looking For
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA).
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). Additional software skills including Bluebeam, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Vault, Plant3D, Inventor, ReCap, SolidWorks, FARO Scene, and other 3D rendering programs preferred.
  • The development and review of engineering calculations, design criteria and performing/Checking calculations on various systems and software packages.
  • Experience with Detailed Stress Analysis – In depth analysis of piping systems, custom piping components, or fabrication assemblies utilizing AutoPIPE, Caesar II, Paulin PRG, Nastran, Inventor, and/or SolidWorks.
  • Possess a willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of power generation types – Coal, Gas, Hydro, and Nuclear.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of client manufacturing, fabrication, and operational processes.
What You’ll Do
  • Preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs and supporting documents such as design criteria, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist in the definition of project objectives, preparation of design estimates, and definition of project requirements and routine design approaches.
  • Responsible for scoping, estimating, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering projects, which may have unique or complex technical or project execution requirements.
  • Perform technical and coordination checking review of deliverables and other project documents and ensures deliverables comply with company procedures and applicable design requirements.
  • Direct overall project design and supervise development of project design and engineering documents associated with assigned project.
  • Apply basic knowledge of system design principles and practices to develop a complete and accurate design package.
  • Possess in-depth working knowledge of mechanical systems and innerworkings – Boilers, Tanks/Vessels, compressors/blowers, HRSG, Turbines, Major and Minor Piping Systems, pumps, etc.
  • Perform walkdowns and collect detailed field information related to site configuration, existing equipment data, and scoping efforts.
  • Perform technical and coordination checking/review of deliverables and other project documents.
  • Prepare calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application of specific software as required.
