Job summary

Unknown Marine Brand in the Midwest seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead new product development and manage PDM systems for boat platforms. You will ensure USCG and ABYC compliance and work with engineering, production, compliance, and sales teams to advance product quality and performance.

The role requires 5+ years in engineering, experience with boat-building materials, and proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD tools, with hands-on testing in real-world environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in marine/manufacturing.
  • Experience developing boats or related products preferred.
  • Strong understanding of boat-building materials.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or similar.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain engineering designs in support of the product plan.
  • Maintain and manage PDM systems and documentation.
  • Create and maintain service documentation for installation and operation.
  • Assist training production personnel and provide technical guidance.
  • Validate and recommend product improvements to reduce costs and improve user experience.
  • Test and troubleshoot boats in real-world environments.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal departments to resolve issues.
  • Support production products, customer service, compliance, and audits.
  • Assist in development and validation of sales/marketing materials.
  • Ensure products comply with USCG, ABYC, and industry standards.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will develop systems and components to support the product plan, with a primary focus on new product development and Product Data Management (PDM). This position ensures boat systems meet United States Coast Guard (USCG) and American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) standards while performing safely and reliably throughout the expected service life of the product. The role partners closely with engineering, production, compliance, customer service, and product development teams to drive innovation, improve product quality, and support the continued growth of an industry-leading marine brand.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain engineering designs in support of the product plan.
  • Maintain and manage Product Data Management (PDM) systems and documentation.
  • Create and maintain service documentation supporting product installation and operation.
  • Assist in training production personnel and provide technical guidance on operational questions.
  • Validate and recommend product improvements that enhance customer experience and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Test and troubleshoot boats in real-world lake and river environments.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal departments to resolve installation and operational issues.
  • Support current production products, customer service initiatives, compliance efforts, and audit activities.
  • Assist in the development, validation, and technical review of sales and marketing materials.
  • Ensure products comply with applicable USCG, ABYC, and industry standards.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Five or more years of engineering experience, preferably within the marine, recreational vehicle, transportation, manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Experience developing boats or related products is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the design and mechanical characteristics of common boat-building materials.
  • Ability to tow and operate boats is preferred; training will be provided.
  • NMMA Compliance Specialist certification is preferred but not required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or similar.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to alternate between sitting and standing, walk frequently, lift up to 25 pounds, climb ladders as needed, and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
