Qualifications

  • Requires BA/BS or MA/MS in a related field and 10+ years of experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification is required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience leading engineering projects.
  • Expertise in complex air-side and water-side HVAC systems.
  • Experience with building HVAC system design for commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, aviation, hospitality, or high-rise.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC controls.
  • Experience designing sustainable building systems with LEED or similar credentials.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in professional software and calculation tools.
  • Substantial experience with Autodesk Revit 3-D modelling.
  • Experience coordinating design documents across disciplines.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents.
  • Proficient with MS Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and MS Office.
  • Ability to handle sensitive inquiries from clients/regulators.
  • Able to write technical opinions and thought leadership content.
  • Willing to travel to project sites or offices.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic Mechanical Engineering team in South Florida. This position is located in Coral Gables, FL and supports full‑time in‑person or hybrid work arrangements. The role requires leading engineering projects, overseeing project scope and schedule, performing HVAC and plumbing engineering on complex projects, mentoring staff, and ensuring safety, sustainability and compliance with industry standards.

What You Will Do as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Woolpert
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical HVAC and plumbing systems from concept through construction documentation and supporting construction administration.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry‑standard software such as Trane Trace 3D Plus.
  • Perform technical review and QA/QC reviews to ensure delivery of code‑compliant, high‑quality engineering deliverables.
  • Develop and modify models, plans, details, and drawings of mechanical and plumbing engineering systems and components according to established standards and modeling techniques.
  • In‑depth knowledge of energy modeling using software and techniques, including COMcheck and EnergyGauge.
  • Support career development and technical skill advancement of team members.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal employees when necessary.

What You Will Bring
  • BA/BS or MA/MS in related field and 10 or more years of related experience.

  • Mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Pay Range: $139,200 – $174,000 USD
