Job summary

CHA Consulting, Inc. seeks a Senior Mechanical Energy Engineer in Parsippany, NJ to lead complex energy projects for utility, institutional, and commercial clients. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Energy or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of energy engineering experience, including leading projects.
• PE license is required.
• Strong understanding of building HVAC systems, central plants, and energy-consuming building systems.
• Experience performing ASHRAE energy audits for various facility types (K-12, municipal, commercial, universities, hospitals, labs).
• Proven ability to lead project execution, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff.
• Experience developing energy savings calculations and reviewing BMS data to identify improvements.
• Advanced proficiency with engineering software (Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical execution of complex engineering designs, energy studies, technical reports, and specifications for power generation, energy management, and facility optimization projects.
• Conduct and oversee comprehensive energy audits, facility assessments, energy analyses, and development of energy efficiency measures (EEMs).
• Evaluate HVAC systems, central plants, hydronic systems, controls, and facility operations to improve energy efficiency and resiliency.
• Analyze system performance, review BMS data and trends, and develop practical, cost-effective recommendations.
• Develop energy savings calculations, opinions of probable cost, and technical evaluations for client decision-making.
• Develop and manage discipline work plans aligned with project milestones within budget and schedule.
• Provide expert consultation and resolve complex technical issues across energy, mechanical, and building systems.
• Guide and mentor junior engineering staff in technical direction and quality reviews.
• Delivery of technical contributions to proposals and presentations for clients and regulatory stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the technical execution of complex engineering designs, energy studies, technical reports, and specifications for power generation, energy management, and facility optimization projects

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Energy or Mechanical Engineering or related field required; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum of 10 years of energy engineering required, including demonstrated experience leading projects
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Strong understanding of building HVAC systems, including central plants, airside systems, hydronic systems, controls, and energy-consuming building systems
• Experience performing and managing ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 energy audits for K-12 schools, municipality buildings, commercial buildings, universities, hospitals, laboratories and other facility types, including energy use analysis, EEM development, savings calculations, and reporting
• Proven ability to lead project execution, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage deliverables, and mentor junior staff
• Experience developing energy savings calculations, reviewing BMS data and system operations, and identifying opportunities to improve facility performance and efficiency
• Expert knowledge of the respective engineering discipline with a proven ability to apply best practices
• Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.) as well as Microsoft Office
• Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures, business practices, and engineering laws
• Experience with electrification and decarbonization studies, including heat pumps, heat recovery, and central plant optimization
• Familiarity with utility incentive programs, ASHRAE standards, and energy modeling software (DesignBuilder, Trane Trace, eQuest)
• Commissioning, retro-commissioning, mechanical design, data logging, and field measurement experience preferred
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences and communicate complex concepts
• Participation in professional engineering societies/organizations preferred
• Ability to travel occasionally throughout the Northeast region as project needs require

Salary Range

$120,000 - $135,000

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
