Job summary

Amazon Lab126 in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Sr. Product Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design, development and quality of consumer electronic devices from concept through production, integrating components and sub-systems to deliver exceptional user experiences.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive design for manufacturability, perform failure analysis, manage schedules and milestones, and collaborate across Design, Electrical, and Product teams to ship innovative hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of experience in product development.
• Strong 3D CAD skills (Creo or similar).
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Experience designing consumer/e enterprise/industrial products through full development cycle.
• Experience integrating component modules (I/O, Cameras, Sensors, Displays, Batteries, PCBs, etc.).
• Analytic problem-solving skills including Six Sigma/DOE.
• Knowledge of tolerance analysis, validation and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team through technical capabilities and clear communication.
• Perform feature design to meet objectives in performance, cost, and size.
• Conduct failure analysis and solution validation.
• Provide cross-functional program integration support.
• Manage data related to performance and quality specifications using statistics.
• Travel up to 15% for overseas manufacturing support.
• Mentor junior engineers in good product design practice.
• Prepare and deliver updates to leadership regularly.
