Job summary

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors is seeking a senior-level mechanical/piping designer to execute complete designs for industrial facilities. The role supports larger projects and performs field verification, develops piping drawings from P&IDs, GA’s, and equipment drawings, and assists during startup under general supervision.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years of experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or related industries, with strong CAD/3D modeling proficiency and knowledge of ASME B31.3.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of design experience in industrial facilities.
  • Proficient with piping deliverables: P&IDs, plans, sections, isometrics.
  • Experience with field verification and constructability reviews.
  • Knowledge of piping codes including ASME B31.3.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete mechanical/piping design work under supervision.
  • Assist in designing larger, complex projects.
  • Develop piping drawings from P&IDs, GA’s, and equipment drawings.
  • Conduct field design work to confirm conditions and communicate with client.
  • Prepare material take-offs and assist startup on site.

What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of mechanical/piping assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This level is expected to assist in the design of larger and more complex mechanical/piping assignments. This work will be performed under general supervision.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.Developing the design and drafting of moderately complex piping drawings given basic information such as P&ID’s, GA’s, piping specifications, equipment drawings, etc.Performing field design work to ascertain current conditions, locate new systems, communicate with client personnel and assist in constructionPreparing material take-offs from piping drawingsPlanning and managing your site design activities for optimum results.Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.On-site assistance during startup.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.Certification: Certification is not required at this level.Experience: This position requires 12+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Associate Degree in Design or Drafting Technology, BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.12 years of relevant design experience, preferably in chemical, agricultural, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, process, or industrial facilities.Demonstrated capability with piping design deliverables including P&IDs, piping plans, sections, isometrics, pipe supports, tie-in details, demolition drawings, and as-built documentation.Proficiency with CAD and 3D modeling tools used for plant design, such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx, SmartPlant, MicroStation, or similar platforms.Working knowledge of piping specifications, materials, valves, fittings, supports, equipment nozzles, installation details, and plant layout principles.Familiarity with applicable piping codes, standards, and company specifications, including ASME B31.3 where applicable.Strong field verification, spatial visualization, constructability review, interdisciplinary coordination, technical communication, and drawing quality-control skills.Ability to lead design tasks, mentor designers, coordinate outside design resources, manage multiple project priorities, and communicate technical issues clearly.Physical Requirements:Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Hargrove CultureWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
