Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design project teams on a wide range of projects—from power and process facilities to healthcare, institutional and government buildings. You will guide the team through concept, design and construction, adapting plans to budget, design factors and client needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or related field and 7 years of mechanical engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering technology with FE exam and 7 years experience; EPC project experience preferred.
  • Master degree in mechanical engineering with 6 years experience; EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and codes; strong proficiency with MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail, teamwork, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews of detailed engineering documents and specs.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, RFQs, and data sheets.
  • Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and other disciplines.
  • Develop project schedules, scope, budgets and staffing; manage change orders.
  • Ensure adherence to mechanical design codes and procedures.
  • Provide non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
  • Quality review drawings and construction administration coordination.
  • Lead field inspections, measurements, calculations and testing of systems.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and publications.
  • Build and maintain client relationships; pursue new business opportunities.
  • Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Prepare project budgets and report performance; mentor junior engineers.
  • Ensure QA/QC process adherence and safety policy compliance.

Engineering techniques and codes (ASME

Education

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited); 7 years experience
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology (ABET) with FE exam; 7 years experience
Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering; 6 years experience
Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred
