Job summary

Young & Franklin Tactair in the United States (New York) seeks a senior design engineer to lead development from prototype through qualification, manufacturing, and on‑site support for aerospace hydraulic and pneumatic controls. You will collaborate with R&D, design, manufacturing, sales and marketing to deliver critical solutions.

The role emphasizes leadership, strong technical skills in GD&T, FEA and CAD tools, and the ability to travel as needed within the aerospace market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 5–10 years of engineering design, development or test experience.
• GD&T familiarity is a plus; VBA and FEA experience are beneficial.
• Willingness to travel on a limited basis.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, lead and report on new product development programs.
• Perform calculations in fluid mechanics, strength of materials, dynamics, stress and heat transfer.
• Develop mathematical models using Matlab, Ansys and Inventor.
• Act as engineer of record for development projects.
• Review specifications and generate compliance assessments.
• Develop product test specifications.
• Provide leadership with budgeting, scheduling, and cross‑functional coordination.
• Support operations with product engineering expertise.
• Manage multiple activities and workloads per schedule.

Position Summary

Actively participate at a senior design level in all development phases from prototyping in the R&D lab, to qualification testing, manufacturing, and supporting our customer in the field. Collaborate with other talented engineers and work directly with manufacturing, sales and marketing, and other colleagues to provide critical solutions in hydraulic and pneumatic controls for aerospace and industrial gas turbine applications.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, lead and report on new product development programs.
• Perform calculations in fluid mechanics, strength of materials, dynamics, stress and heat transfer.
• Develop mathematical models of mechanical systems using software such as Matlab®, Ansys® and Autodesk Inventor.
• Act as the engineer of record for development projects.
• Review customer specifications and generate compliance assessments.
• Develop product test specifications.
• Provide leadership, including resource planning, budgeting and communication to management, suppliers and customers.
• Provide technical leadership to other engineers and designers.
• Manage multiple activities and workload consistent with schedule and target dates.
• Act as primary contact for product engineering support to operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

• This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
• Bachelor’s Degree, Mechanical Engineering Major– Minimum.
• A strong mechanical aptitude.
• Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
• 5 – 10 years of experience in engineering design, development or test.
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) a plus.
• Experience with VBA a plus.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis a plus.
• Willingness to travel on a limited basis.

Physical Demands

• Sit, stand, walk and interact throughout the day in typical manufacturing and office environments.
• Reach above the shoulder, below the waist, and lift up to 25 pounds to file documents or store materials.
• Walk through manufacturing areas requiring personal protective equipment: safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.
