Cricut Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our product development team in South Jordan, Utah. In this pivotal role, you'll leverage your mechanical engineering expertise to develop innovative designs for our consumer products, ensuring excellence and creativity.

Ideal candidates possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with over 5 years of experience. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, lead projects, and utilize 3D CAD tools, helping to transform ideas into tangible creations while receiving benefits like competitive medical coverage and generous PTO.

Job Description

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our product development team, you will assume a key leadership role on the team, providing deep mechanical engineering expertise honed over a career of critical judgement and decision‑making. You will develop mechanical designs for new and existing products by applying engineering and fabrication principles to product designs for the consumer market in accordance with business needs and the product road map. You will lead and mentor other engineers in the company and individuals both senior and junior to you and at the same level as you. You exhibit a strong capability to exercise judgement, communication with a wide variety of team members internally to the company and externally, and the ability to both see the future of our product development as well as design for the current state, all with excellence.

• Develop concepts and ideas for new products or methods to improve existing products.
• Design mechanisms, drive systems, sheet metal, plastic housings and components in support of new products
• Develop cost estimates based on product concepts or designs
• Use engineering principles to develop the structural design of products by incorporating mechanical and electrical subsystems to meet industrial design, marketing, and customer requirements to meet project schedules.
• Specify materials and components in designs
• Manage multiple design projects at once. Work independently with little or no direction. Keep management informed and apprised of design. Work with other functional groups (marketing, sales, customer service, etc.) within the company to develop and evaluate designs that meet customer needs.
• Present and participate in design reviews and update designs as required.
• Develop schedules for part and product development.
• Proactively identify risks and develop and execute risk reduction measures
• Problem solve- identify root cause, verify the root cause through on/off testing and implement both corrective and preventative actions to resolve problems
• Keep appraised of the customer experience related to company products.
• Work with design and/or manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth product ramps leading up to production.
• Perform testing of designs to prove functionality and reliability.
• Generate design specifications and drawings for external design and manufacturing activities.
• Apply statistical methods such as process capability studies and DOE’s in the development and improvement of products.
• Mentor other engineers through out the design cycle

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ Years of applicable experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities

• Experience designing consumer based products similar to ours such as crafting machines, inkjet printers or similar electro‑mechanical devices, medical devices or similar.
• Proficient in the use of 3D CAD (CREO preferred but also acceptable are SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB).
• Interest in and an aptitude for robotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, mechanism design, etc.
• Experienced in injection molded plastics design, tooling best practices and process tuning.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Familiar with sheet metal design and fabrication processes
• Familiar with rapid prototype techniques and processes
• Proficient in the application of GD&T
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction

• Previous experience with ODMs
