Type One Energy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to translate design requirements into functional stellarator components. You will develop designs, specifications, and interfaces for complex systems while validating FEA/CFD models and supporting procurement.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in engineering, strong CAD/analysis skills, and experience with first-of-a-kind components. Relocation and advanced manufacturing methods are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; master’s preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in similar engineering environments.
• Expert in mechanical design principles, failure modes, and lifecycle reliability.
• Experience with first-of-a-kind component design.
• Familiarity with CAD and analysis software; Siemens NX is highly desirable.

• Analyze interface requirements between stellarator systems.
• Develop and validate FEA/CFD models using ANSYS, COMSOL, and other tools.

Your Role In The Mission

Type One Energy are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with first of a kind design and integration skills.

Responsibilities

• Translating design requirements into functional stellarator components and systems.
• Develop system and component designs and associated technical specifications for our stellarator systems.
• Analyze and align the interface requirements between and among stellarator systems.
• Develop and validate Finite Element (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models using ANSYS, COMSOL, and other tools.
• Develop procurement packages.
• Resole any technical questions which may occur during the fabrication efforts.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, Master’s degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in similar engineering environments.
• Demonstrated leadership, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to manage complex technical challenges.
• Expert in mechanical design principles, failure modes, and lifecycle reliability.
• Proficiency in cost, schedule, and resource planning.
• Skilled in balancing trade-offs across performance, manufacturability, and regulation.
• Experience with design of first of a kind components.
• Familiarity with Computer Aided Design and Analysis software
• Experience with design of fusion energy systems and equipment is desirable
• Experience with Siemens NX CAD software is highly desirable.
• Experience operating within a PDM environment in CAD
