Job summary

Deckers Brands in Portland, OR, is seeking a Sr. Manager, Material Design for HOKA Footwear. You will define the future of material innovation across our footwear portfolio, translating brand ambition into seasonally relevant concepts with athlete-informed storytelling.

You will lead a cross-functional team to deliver material narratives, drive speed to market, and mentor designers while aligning with business goals and consumer insights.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in industrial design, material design, product design, or related field.
• 8+ years’ experience in footwear material design, focused on lifestyle or performance.
• Advanced understanding of footwear material, construction, and process (Tooling + Upper).
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Miro or Lucid.

Responsibilities

• Lead seasonal material vision, design strategy, and application direction.
• Define seasonal material palettes, expression frameworks, and application strategies.
• Shape material design direction and dimensional strategy across product collections.
• Translate consumer trends into compelling, trend-driven material narratives.
• Refine and evolve existing material executions while pioneering new material opportunities.
• Lead material design execution on strategic footwear priority projects from concept to execution.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver material and finish solutions.
• Serve as the material design expert at product and collection levels.
• Foster alignment across functions to deliver innovative material solutions.
• Mentor design teams through material storytelling and consumer-centered innovation.
