Job summary

Virgin Galactic seeks an experienced Sr. Mass Properties and Flight Sciences Engineer to join our Operations team. This role uses 3Dx, CATIA, Excel, Matlab, and other tools to determine mass, inertia, CG, and aerodynamic loading of flight vehicles.

You will develop tools to automate analysis and collaborate with technicians on vehicles. Requirements include a BS in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering and 8+ years in aircraft/spacecraft mass properties and aerodynamics, plus strong IT skills and

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or related discipline required.
• At least 8 years of aircraft or spacecraft Mass Properties and Aerodynamics Engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of aircraft and space systems; familiarity with aerospace standards (FAA, FAA-AST).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate in a timely, respectful manner and openness to ideas.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Strong IT skills, including Excel, Catia V5, Matlab and computer programming capability.

Responsibilities

• Selects methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues.
• Develops standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities to anticipate and resolve issues.
• Balances technical product, cost, and schedule to solve problems.
• Determines technical objectives and makes authoritative recommendations.
• Keeps current knowledge of developments to improve product quality.
• Understands loads and aerodynamic effects on loads; maintains analysis tool post-flight to ensure loads stay within limits.
• Acts as in-house expert on aerodynamic changes due to repairs/modifications.
• Demonstrates flexible design philosophy to support turn times and commercial goals.
• Follows safety practices and regulatory protocols; collaborates to achieve goals.
