Job summary

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA seeks a Marine Mammal Trainer to support daily care, training, and enrichment for marine mammals. You will respond to guest needs, follow safety and MSDS procedures, and assist with veterinary tasks and medical administration.

The role requires SCUBA certification, strong swimming, and a degree in animal science or related experience. Expect a 40-hour week including weekends, with opportunities to lead demonstrations and collaborate on research projects.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and able to work 40 hours weekly including weekends and holidays.
• Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related experience in operant conditioning and animal behavior.
• Excellent reading, writing and speaking English; comfortable addressing large crowds.
• SCUBA certification and strong swimming ability required; fitness to perform demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Represent Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in a positive, informed manner to guests and staff.
• Provide guest service, respond to requests, and ensure safety in accordance with MSDS and policies.
• Care for marine mammals: feeding, daily health checks, enrichment, and veterinary-administered medications.
• Demonstrate advanced animal behavior recognition, conditioning, and trainer-led presentations.
• Coordinate with teams to modify presentations and assist in training Apprentice and ACS groups.
• Operate equipment and assist in research projects; support daily schedules in supervisor's absence.
