Job summary

Serco is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Maritime Engineering Operation to design ships and ship systems in Arlington, VA. You will lead electrical system concepts, develop schematics, and ensure compliance with naval standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualified candidates bring 10+ years in marine electrical design, DoD Secret clearance eligibility, and a strong command of MS Office, MATLAB/Simulink, and PLC programming.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S Citizenship Required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in marine electrical systems design.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical design principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office 2010, MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder, and PLC programming.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and standards (46 CFR; ABS; SOLAS; IEEE; IEC).
  • Experience writing requirements and drafting SOW/Technical Instructions.
  • Ability to review project work, costs, and specifications for constructability.
  • Good oral and written communications; ability to work without supervision.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept through construction, including power generation, distribution, and propulsion systems.
  • Produce and review electrical drawings, schematics, load analyses, and cable schedules; write equipment specs and technical requisitions.
  • Provide project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with marine/offshore standards and class rules (IEC, IEEE, DNV, ABS, LR).
  • Support project execution through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and sea trials.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with mechanical, naval, and software teams.
  • Interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classification societies.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the lifecycle.
  • Travel for shipchecks and design reviews.
