Job summary

Avo Photonics is seeking a diligent and strategic Software Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, and deployment of manufacturing software for assembly and test automation, MES, and shopfloor control.

You will mentor a software team, manage external resources, and ensure best practices in coding, testing, and documentation while collaborating with business units to meet end-user requirements.

Qualifications

• BS degree in CS or related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with Python.
• 4+ years of software architecture experience.
• Demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience (2+ years).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with FastAPI, MongoDB, GitLab, SAP Business One or manufacturing/hardware interfacing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and contribute to design, development, deployment, and maintenance of manufacturing software (assembly/test automation, MES, shopfloor control).
• Manage, train, and mentor software engineering team; supervise contracted resources.
• Ensure development follows best practices including inline docs, unit tests, CI testing via code reviews.
• Interact with business unit managers to align software with testing, traceability, product, and end-user requirements.
• Generate documentation for the quality management system and contribute to knowledge repositories.
• Promote adoption of new techniques and AI tools in software development.
