Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering to lead the manufacturing engineering organization across CFS1 and Fusionova, driving scale-up of HTS magnet components from development to full-scale production. You will define strategy, build high-performing teams, and establish scalable manufacturing systems.

You will standardize processes, develop automation, partner with cross-functional teams, and implement DFM, PFMEA, SPC, and Lean across sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, or industrial engineering.
• 10+ years’ experience as a manufacturing engineer for complex electro-mechanical systems.
• 5+ years’ experience leading manufacturing engineering teams.
• Experience taking products from R&D into production with scalable manufacturing.
• Strong background in process development, tooling, automation, and factory operations.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional organizations in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop manufacturing engineering teams across sites and managers.
• Define and execute strategy supporting production, quality, capacity, and cost objectives.
• Establish standardized processes, tooling, work instructions, and best practices across facilities.
• Own process development for HTS magnets from R&D builds to full-scale production.
• Develop and qualify manufacturing techniques, automation strategies, and process flows.
• Drive transition from manual to semi-automated and automated systems.
• Organize milestones and schedules to meet production goals.
• Communicate risks, status, resources, and priorities to leadership.
• Lead resolution of manufacturing discrepancies with focus on continuous improvement.
• Develop capacity models, staffing plans, factory layouts, and capital roadmaps.
