Job summary

Columbia Tech in Massachusetts is seeking a senior engineer to evaluate manufacturing processes and collaborate with design, program, and quality teams to ensure robust assembly methods. You will create flow diagrams, work instructions, and participate in DFMA and cost-reduction efforts to streamline production.

Requires a BS in engineering and 6+ years in ISO-regulated capital equipment manufacturing, with CAD (SolidWorks) and ERP/MRP systems experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering Discipline.
• 6+ years’ experience in ISO regulated capital equipment manufacturing.
• Experience with New Product Development processes and collaborating with development engineers.
• Experience with New Product Introduction.
• CAD (SolidWorks preferred), MS Office, MS Project, and MRP/ERP systems.
• Good technical aptitude and understanding of electro/mechanical assemblies.
• Basic knowledge of MRP/PDM; Epicor E9/10 and SW EPDM is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of GD&T, inspection methods and tools.
• Basic knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes using product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials knowledge.
• Collaborate with Design Engineers to interpret product requirements for AFDs.
• Coordinate with Program Managers on SOW deliverables.
• Work with Quality Engineers to maintain product quality.
• Identify DFMA or cost reduction opportunities during design reviews and builds.
• Read and understand engineering level assembly drawings.
• Understand lean-6S manufacturing and DFMA practices.
• Generate Process Flow and Assembly Flow Diagrams for new products.
• Create initial work instructions from design files and prototypes.
• Identify in-process QC points and high-risk processes.
• Assist Quality Engineers in developing QA forms.
• Direct activities of engineering technicians and assembly labor.
• Support transition of products to production environments.
• Perform assembly time studies for labor justification.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with Design and Project Engineers.
• Work with Design Engineers to understand product requirements as how it relates to AFD’s.
• Work with Program Managers on understanding SOW deliverables
• Work with Quality Engineers to maintain product quality
• May participate in design reviews to identify opportunities for DFMA or Cost Reduction improvements. Continue to identify DFMA/CR opportunities during build phases.
• Read and understand engineering level assembly drawings.
• Possesses a basic level of understanding or background in lean-6s manufacturing, Visual Factory, fixture design, part design, and Design For Manufacturing and Assembly practices.
• Understanding of and experience with modifying indented Bills of Material to accurately capture design and assembly intent in relation to the Assembly Flow Diagram.
• Generate Process Flow and Assembly Flow Diagrams for new products based on information gathered during review of design files and/or participation in prototype builds. Understand the flow of material as it relates to product assembly (AFD), work cell layout and work cell set up based on the Process Flow Diagram.
• Generate initial work instructions based on review of design files and/or participation in prototype builds. Refine work instructions based on information gathered during beta/pilot build and through communication with assemblers and design engineers.
• Understand the need for and identify SC points for in-process QC checks.
• Work closely with Quality Engineers on developing Quality Assurance Forms
• Direct activities and provide guidance and instruction to engineering technicians and manufacturing assembly labor.
• Work with manufacturing engineers and Pilot Production Supervisors to assist with the transition of products to a production environment.
• Identify High Risk processes to minimize client risk
• Identify any specialty tools, fixtures, and basic assembly aids required to assemble products.
• Provide troubleshooting expertise and drive resolution of documentation or design issues based on assembly process and understanding of a product’s design intent.
• Apply knowledge of new product development process to facilitate the capture of critical information at the correct points in the development process to facilitate and move forward a proposed assembly process.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Support Program/Project Managers by providing technical assistance
• May be required to perform assembly time studies for labor justification

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering Discipline.
• 6+ years’ experience working in an ISO regulated capital equipment product manufacturing environment.
• Experience with New Product Development processes as well as working collaboratively with development engineers
• Experience with New Product Introduction
• Working experience with CAD (SolidWorks preferred), MS Office, MS Project, and MRP/ERP systems.
• Good technical aptitude and basic understanding of electro/mechanical assemblies.
• May have basic knowledge of MRP/PDM; Epicor E9/10 and SW EPDM software experience a plus.
• Basic knowledge of GD&T, inspection methods and tools.

Rate: $115,000 - $125,000/year (Salary commensurate with experience)
