Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Cambridge, MA, seeks a hands‑on Senior Manufacturing Engineer to design, implement, and optimize production processes across the line, driving productivity, quality, and safety.

You will own the shift, collaborate with design, QA, and supply chain, and lead RCCA, process improvements, and tooling projects to meet cost and yield targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/ manufacturing/ aerospace or related field.
  • 7+ years in manufacturing/production engineering, with high‑precision hardware experience.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting of electro‑mechanical equipment on the production floor.
  • Experience with RCCA frameworks and continuous improvement tools (Lean/Six Sigma).
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced, team‑oriented environments.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, CAD modeling (SolidWorks, NX), and drawing interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and qualify manufacturing processes for new products to meet quality, cost, and production targets.
  • Lead design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment for efficient production.
  • Provide hands‑on engineering support for first shift operations.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical/electrical/automated assembly issues.
  • Maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Collaborate with quality, safety, and production management on handoffs and improvements.
  • Lead RCCA and process optimization projects to improve safety, yield, cycle time, and cost.

Join the power movement as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking a hands‑on, detail‑oriented, innovative, and results‑driven Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improveproductivity, efficiency, and quality across the production line. You will be the magnetowner, holding overall accountability for this shift. This role involves close collaboration with design engineers, production staff, quality assurance, and supply chain teams.

  • Develop, implement, and qualify manufacturing processes for new products, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and production rate targets
  • Lead the design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment required for efficient production
  • Provide hands‑on manufacturing engineering support for first shift production operations
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and automated manufacturing assembly issues
  • Maintain and update manufacturing documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and operation sequencing
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including quality, safety, and production management, to address shift handoffs and non-conf
  • Implement root cause corrective actions (RCCA) for quality non‑conformances and process bottlenecks
  • Lead process optimization projects to improve safety, yield, cycle time, and cost efficiency
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role supporting high‑precision or complex hardware assembly
  • Hands‑on experience troubleshooting electro‑mechanical equipment and tooling on the production floor
  • Demonstrated experience with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) frameworks and continuous improvement tools (Lean/Six Signa)
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, CAD modeling (SolidWorks, NX), and drawing interpretation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across shift transfers
  • Experience with high‑field superconducting magnets, vacuum systems, or cryogenic hardware
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP and MES software (e.g., SAP, Tulip, Solumina)
  • Experience working a dedicated shift schedule in a fast‑paced environment
  • Proficiency with statistical process control (SPC) and DOE methodologies
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, stooping, and sitting, for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
