Job summary

Moog Military Aircraft Group in Torrance, CA is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering Group onsite on a 9/80 schedule. The role reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and focuses on creating efficient, quality manufacturing processes for aerospace components.

Responsibilities include new product introduction, improving legacy programs, selecting capital equipment, and coordinating with design to optimize facilities.

Qualifications

• 7 years progressive experience in aerospace manufacturing engineering; minimum 10 years for applicants without a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with aerospace cylindrical steel components and machining processes (turning, milling, OD/ID, etc).
• BS in manufacturing/industrial/mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in 3‑D modeling, engineering drawings, fixture and tool design, inspection methods.
• Knowledge of AS9100 requirements is a plus.

Job Summary

Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support our Manufacturing Engineering Group at our plant in Torrance, CA. The role reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and is based onsite with a 9/80 schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• New Product Introduction (NPI): perform drawing reviews, develop quality‑based and cost‑effective manufacturing processes, design tooling for all operations, analyze and troubleshoot manufacturing processes to achieve targeted yield and efficiency.
• Legacy Programs and Production Environment: support continuous improvement in the machine shop, review existing manufacturing plans, recommend improvements and drawing updates, implement automation and Industry 4.0 technologies.
• Research, specify and purchase capital equipment to increase capacity or technology.
• Coordinate with departments to optimize design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.
• Provide technical ownership of gear production equipment (hobbers, shapers) including programming, troubleshooting, fixture and cutting tool specifications.
• Perform root‑cause analysis, corrective action and quality processes such as 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 7 years progressive experience in manufacturing engineering for aerospace components; minimum 10 years for applicants without a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with aerospace cylindrical steel components; knowledge of machining processes: turning, milling, OD/ID, surface, jig grinding, shaping, hobbing, broaching, gear grinding.
• Knowledge of aerospace steel properties, heat treatment, plating, NDT, aerospace painting and GDT.
• Proficiency in 3‑D modeling, engineering drawings, fixture and tool design, inspection methods.
• Strong verbal and written communication, team player, organizational skills.
• Optional: experience with NX & Team Center; experience creating manufacturing processes for aerospace cylindrical components with gears or splines; knowledge of gear/spline inspection; CMM (Zeiss) inspection; AS9100 requirements; time‑management skills.
