Job description

Job Title: Senior Manager - Virtual Construction - Falls Church, VA

Location: Falls Church, VA (Hybrid, 4 days in office, 1 day from home) Employment Type: Full-Time Salary: $120,000 - $165,000 Annually + $30,000 Guaranteed Minimum Annual Bonus

This position is with one of the ten largest general contractors in the nation, a privately held firm headquartered in the Washington, DC area with 16 offices coast to coast and more than 3,300 team members. For nearly 90 years the company has delivered complex core and shell construction, renovations, and interior fit‑outs across healthcare, mission critical, life science, government, hospitality, and corporate markets, and has more than doubled in size over the past two years on the strength of repeat clients and a national project footprint.

The company invests heavily in innovation, research and development, and construction technology, and is consistently recognized as a top place to work in the industry. Team members are given real ownership of their projects, clear paths to advancement, and a culture built on trust with clients, partners, subcontractors, and teammates. This is a growing team where your skills matter and your future is built to last.

Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Virtual Construction leads multiple functions within the Virtual Construction department, including BIM coordination and clash detection, 4D sequencing and animation, and model-based quality control. The role leads a team that includes Managers who own their own functions, allocates time, people, and budget across concurrent projects, implements the SOPs and BIM Execution Plans that govern coordination, sequencing, and quality on every project, and partners directly with clients, designers, engineers, trade partners, and Operations to resolve conflicts before they reach the field. This is a leadership seat with real reach: turning virtual construction from a project service into a competitive advantage that shapes how teams plan, coordinate, and execute. The ideal candidate masters today's tools and workflows while seeing where virtual construction is headed over the next 2 to 5 years. The role is based at company headquarters, works alongside a growing team of Virtual Construction professionals supporting projects nationwide, and travels approximately 25% to project sites and the company's 16 regional offices.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the virtual construction practice, aligned with company goals and industry best practices.
  • Lead the integration of virtual construction methodologies into project delivery across BIM coordination, clash detection, 4D sequencing and animation, and quality control.
  • Develop and enforce department-wide SOPs and BIM Execution Plans governing coordination, sequencing, and animation workflows.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, determining schedule, staffing, and budget for VDC scope on each, and prioritize allocation of time, resources, and budget across projects and functions.
  • Lead a team of Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers; develop current and future Managers and recommend succession planning and org structure.
  • Build bench strength through recruiting, onboarding, and knowledge sharing across the department.
  • Own coordination outcomes on the most complex and highest-risk projects in the portfolio; direct model integration strategy across design teams, trade partners, and specialty contractors.
  • Develop 4D construction sequencing simulations, analyze schedules for optimization and risk mitigation, and support site logistics and phasing studies.
  • Establish quality control procedures, model audit cadence, and quality benchmarks for all virtual construction deliverables.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement emerging tools and workflows; build the business case for adoption and scale what proves out.
  • Partner with Operations and Preconstruction to align VDC scope with project requirements and pursuit timelines.
  • Present virtual construction capabilities in interviews, owner meetings, and industry events, and represent the company in professional organizations.
Required Background
  • Four-year degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; additional applicable experience accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of dedicated virtual design and construction experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing others, including managing or mentoring team leads who own their own functions
  • Experience allocating staffing and managing budget across multiple concurrent projects
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing virtual construction strategies on complex projects, including large-scale or technically complex work such as data centers, healthcare, aviation, or advanced manufacturing
  • Experience developing and enforcing BIM Execution Plans and department-level standards
  • Deep, current working knowledge of BIM tools and VDC processes, maintained through active practice rather than oversight alone
  • Construction industry knowledge, ideally with a general contractor, with a clear understanding of how projects move from drawings through completion
  • Forward-thinking mindset with the creativity to anticipate where virtual construction is headed over the next 2 to 5 years
  • Working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, Revizto, Autodesk Forma, Synchro Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in understanding construction documents, shop drawings, and other design communication tools
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% to project sites and regional offices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead external stakeholders through complex coordination decisions
Compensation & Perks
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Performance-based bonuses
  • Premium health care coverage including vision and dental
  • Employer-matched 401(k)
  • Wellness reimbursement program
  • Paid holidays and time off
  • Additional voluntary benefits and leave types
  • Company support for active participation in professional organizations
  • Path for advancement into Director-level and department leadership roles
