Job summary

Adaptive Biotechnologies Corp. is seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering to lead a software development team responsible for enhancements and new product development.

You will guide goals, coach engineers, and align team efforts with company objectives in a collaborative, high-performance environment. You'll work with cross-functional partners across biology, data science, and operations, shaping technical strategy, reducing technical debt, and ensuring delivery of high-quality software

Qualifications

• Experience creating and maintaining complex software in Linux and Windows.
• Strong OO languages and modern scripting experience.
• Experience with Oracle or Postgres databases and version control.
• Ability to work with diverse teams and perform code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Oversees all development phases including specification, design, implementation, testing, deployment and running software that supports Adaptive’s production software systems.
• Interacts with software program managers and internal customers to define application requirements and/or necessary modifications.
• Manage a team of software developers, prioritizing efforts to align with company and team goals
• Develop strong technical understanding of production systems and plan for continuous improvement with elimination of technical debt
• Participate in release activities, phases including specification, design, implementation, testing, deployment
• All other duties as assigned

Position Overview

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering leads the activities of a software development team for software enhancements and new product development.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Oversees all development phases including specification, design, implementation, testing, deployment and running software that supports Adaptive’s production software systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in computer science, Bioinformatics, or equivalent is required with 12+ years of related software engineering and leadership experience.
• Masters in computer science with 8+ years of related experience.
• Experience creating and maintaining complex software using modern methodologies in both Linux and Windows environments.
• Extensive experience with a modern general scripting language such as Python or Groovy; strongly typed object-oriented languages such as Java or C#; experience with relational databases such as Oracle or Postgres. Strong familiarity with source control, unit testing, in-code documentation and automated build environments. Superior communication skills are essential to effectively interact in a highly diverse cross-discipline environment with non-computer scientists such as lab technicians, biologists, geneticists and statisticians. Ability to work well in a team is crucial; should be open to pair-programming and/or code-reviews.
• Experience dealing with production issues including interacting with primary users, providing production support. Ability to understand, debug, maintain, and/or refactor legacy code. Experience with Java Servlets, JSPs, HTML, and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of object-oriented JS frameworks like AngularJS. Experience with build tools like Ant or Gradle. Experience with web UI frameworks, Web services, and RESTful APIs.

Compensation

Salary Range: $163,100 - $244,700

Adaptive’s posted compensation information includes a base salary (or hourly rate) range and summary of other available total compensation. The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
