Etsy, Inc. is seeking a Senior Manager, Scaled Detection & Enforcement, Trust & Safety, to lead a distributed team focused on mitigating violative content across the Marketplace.

You will shape proactive abuse-mitigation strategy, optimize labeling operations, and collaborate with Policy, Product, Engineering, Analytics and Vendor Operations to improve model feedback loops and detection systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in scaled policy enforcement, ML Ops, labeling strategy, and content abuse detection.
• 3+ years of team management experience mentoring high performing teams.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a history of operational improvements.
• Technical proficiency in SQL and AI prompting; able to work with diverse partners remotely.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional engagement.
• Ability to influence and collaborate in high-stakes situations.

What’s the role?

As a Senior Manager, Scaled Detection & Enforcement, Trust & Safety, you will lead a team of Trust & Safety Specialists to mitigate violative content on Etsy’s Marketplace. You will drive the strategy for proactive detection from an Operations perspective across different Policy verticals in collaboration with our Engineering, Analytics and Product partners. You collaborate cross-functionally to implement procedures to improve labeling operations for model feedback, control optimization via improving precision and recall with the goal of automation across different detection systems. You identify new content abuse trends and conduct risk assessments for new products and features we roll out.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead, mentor and coach a distributed team responsible for detection and removal of policy violating content and behaviors on Etsy.
• Play a key role in shaping, driving and implementing the team's short & long term proactive abuse mitigation strategy, labeling operations and creating effective feedback loops, collaborating with cross-functional partner teams (Policy, Product, Engineering, Vendor Operations, Analytics).
• Bring a deep understanding of the abuse landscape. Identify and investigate new abuse trends, address them quickly with scaled detection and provide ongoing insights to partners. Analyze and draw conclusions on root-causes and define and implement mitigation steps.
• Handle and resolve critical issues that could pose legal, regulatory, or reputational risks; this may involve availability to handle customer issues on weekends on an ad-hoc basis.
• Be comfortable with exposure to potentially graphic, sensitive, and offensive content.
• Deliver improvements to our performance metrics based on understanding drivers of operations.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 7+ years of experience in scaled policy enforcement, machine learning operations (ML Ops), labeling strategy, and content abuse detection in Trust and Safety, tech, or online platform sectors.
• 3+ years of team management experience and ability to mentor and develop high performing teams
• Developed problem-solving and analytical abilities with a demonstrated history of making effective operational improvements and solving tough problems.
• Technical proficiency (SQL, AI-prompting) and experience to work with a variety of partners to gather requirements, explain models and iterate to make improvements remotely and across geographies
• Excellent communication and cross-functional engagement
• Ability to influence and collaborate with different teams also in high-stakes situations

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.

Etsy uses two geographic pay zones to reflect the labor markets where we compete for talent: one called Geo-1, covering the New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area, and one called Geo-2, covering all other U.S. locations. Salary ranges for this role vary by zone and are listed below.

Location

We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office. Salary Range:

• Geo-1: 162,000.00 - 219,000.00 USD Annual
• Geo-2: 145,000.00 - 197,000.00 USD Annual
