Ashley Furniture is looking for an experienced Senior Manager, Retail Construction to lead renovation, remodel, and update projects from initial planning through completion. This role is ideal for a construction professional who thrives on managing multiple priorities, solving problems in the field, and bringing teams together to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to operations.
You’ll serve as a key point of contact throughout the construction process, partnering with contractors, vendors, landlords, and internal teams to keep projects aligned with scope, schedule, budget, and Ashley’s standards.
What You’ll Do
Lead Projects from Planning Through Closeout
- Serve as the primary construction point of contact for assigned renovation and update projects.
- Review project plans, schedules, sequencing, site logistics, and execution requirements.
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, plan revisions, and change orders for accuracy and constructability.
- Identify potential project risks, constraints, and opportunities and recommend solutions that help minimize delays, costs, and operational disruption.
- Ensure projects meet applicable codes, permits, lease requirements, landlord criteria, and company standards.
Manage Schedules, Budgets & Project Performance
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, milestones, and critical dates.
- Track progress, costs, forecasts, and project readiness while providing timely status updates.
- Manage change orders, claims, and scope adjustments, escalating items for approval when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate project reporting using project management, scheduling, and cost-control tools.
- Coordinate with internal teams, general contractors, vendors, landlords, and field resources to keep projects moving forward.
- Partner closely with Operations, Facilities Management, Design and Real Estate leadership to coordinate resources, site access, and operational needs.
- Assist with contractor and vendor selection, performance management, issue resolution, and accountability.
Manage Project Documentation & Communication
- Represent Ashley Furniture in project meetings and communications with internal stakeholders, contractors, vendors, landlords, and municipal contacts as needed.
- Maintain clear communication among general contractors, subcontractors, landlords, vendors, and internal business partners.
- Prepare, review, and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, pay applications, purchase orders, RFPs/RFQs, status reports, and closeout documentation.
- Support contract administration to ensure work remains aligned with approved scope, schedule, budget, and company requirements.
Solve Problems & Keep Projects Moving
- Address field issues, schedule constraints, scope changes, and unforeseen construction challenges in a timely, solutions-focused manner.
- Resolve project conflicts through collaboration, communication, and appropriate escalation.
- Adapt to changing project needs while maintaining project integrity and alignment with business priorities.
What You Bring
- Strong construction project coordination, oversight, and vendor management skills.
- Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment, building systems, and industry practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, lease exhibits, and contract documents.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify risk and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organizational, time-management, follow-up, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive construction experience, preferably involving retail renovations, remodels, facilities, or multi-site projects.
- Project Management, Construction Management, or a related professional certification is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
This position requires the ability to work in office, retail, and active construction-site environments. Candidates should be comfortable walking active job sites and uneven surfaces, wearing required PPE, and traveling to project locations based on business needs.
The role may require extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking and occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds.
