Warby Parker is seeking a sharp-as-a-tack Senior Manager of Payroll to join our Finance team and drive payroll for our 3,000+ employees across the U.S. and Canada. In this position, you’ll take on and own complex financial processes, finding ways to evolve and enhance them on your quest toward utmost efficiency and accuracy. Communication and collaboration are the keys to success in this role, as you’ll work closely with both the Finance, Accounting, and People teams. We’ll also count on you to provide critical support for our employees and handle confidential concerns in a quick and effective way. Sound like your cup of tea (or coffee, or yerba mate)? Keep reading!

What you’ll do:

  • Own multi-state U.S. and Canadian payrolls for 16 legal entities (plus more to come!)
  • Be responsible for the timely and accurate compilation of all payrolls in the U.S. and Canada
  • Act as the subject matter expert on payroll compliance and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax jurisdictions—monitoring state, provincial, and local registrations for payroll taxes, local health and state unemployment insurance, workers compensation, etc.
  • Work closely with the People team to validate changes to compensation, benefits elections, and other deductions
  • Lead cross-functional teams on payroll-related projects—continuously developing processes that are scalable, SOX compliant, and in support of the company’s growth, as well as setting up new systems and vendors
  • Ensure proper setup of state and local payroll registrations, including withholding tax, SUI, and any applicable local taxes, and work with the People and Legal teams to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Ensure timely and accurate W-2 preparation at the end of year
  • Manage two direct reports and drive the growth and development of the Payroll team
  • Assist with audits of internal controls, financial statement areas related to payroll, workers compensation, 401k, and tax
  • Assist the Accounting and People teams on ad hoc requests and analyses related to payroll

Who you are:

  • A skilled problem-solver with 7+ years of payroll-related experience (plus, you’ve managed large-scale, multi-state payrolls)
  • Comfortable working independently and owning your work from start to finish
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented (improving and documenting processes makes your heart flutter)
  • A direct, honest communicator when working with your team and other stakeholders
  • Someone who makes well-informed decisions, driven by the highest level of ethics and respect for confidentiality
  • A dexterous multitasker who can prioritize several projects without losing focus
  • A voracious learner who’s always seeking to improve yourself, your team, and the world around you
  • Someone who takes your work seriously—but not yourself!
  • Positive, kind, excited by a challenge, and ready to offer support whenever needed
  • Not on the Office of Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)
  • ADP Lyric and/or Oracle HCM experience
  • Experience processing payroll in Canada
  • Familiarly with the accounting side of payroll (e.g., journal entries, reconciliations)

About Us:

Warby Parker was founded with a mission: to inspire and impact the world with vision, purpose, and style.

We're constantly asking ourselves how we can do more and make a greater impact, and that starts by reimagining everything that a company and industry can be. We want to demonstrate that a business can scale while doing good in the world, without charging a premium for it. And we’ve learned that it takes creativity, empathy, and innovation to achieve that goal.

Since the day we launched in 2010, we’ve pioneered ideas, designed products, and developed technologies that help people see. We offer everything you need for happier eyes at a price that leaves you with money in your pocket, from designer-quality glasses and contacts to eye exams and vision tests, and you can meet us online, at our stores, or even in your home. Wherever and whenever you need it, we’re there to make exceptional vision care simple and accessible. (Delightful, too.)

Ultimately, we believe in vision for all, which is why for every pair of glasses or sunglasses we sell, a pair of glasses is distributed to someone in need through our Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program.
