ALICE + OLIVIA is seeking a Yarn Development Manager to partner with Design, Technical Design, Production, and Merchandising in translating vision into finished product. You will oversee seasonal yarn development calendars, ensure timely milestones, and collaborate with factories and mills to deliver brand-appropriate items at accessible prices.

You will drive cost control, color consistency, and supplier relationships, supporting development fittings and coordinating with cross-functional teams

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

You will partner with various departments within the Sweater product category to assist in translating vision, ideas and sketches into finished product. They will work closely with Design, Technical Design, Production and Merchandising teams to ensure the design visions and sales needs are met, while developing a brand-appropriate product at an accessible price point. They will oversee the seasonal yarn development calendar and partner with design to ensure timely delivery of all milestones from concept to SRS stage.

RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Support and partner with design on new development techniques with factories and facilitate communication with factories and yarn suppliers to develop items within our price brackets.
  • create raw material POs in system/send to yarn vendors for sampling orders
  • After line opening, work with Design and Production teams to ensure colors are consistent with the rest of the collection.
  • Track + communicate yarn budget spending to upper management bi-weekly
  • Maintain smooth flow of information and materials between design, PD to factory.
  • Initiate and manage the seasonal yarn process (vendor appointments/selections, communication with mills, receiving yarns, organizing yarns in library)
  • Support/partner with design in sourcing new yarns and developing stitches.
  • partner with factories to maintain yarn inventory/liability charts
  • Communicate and follow up with factories for any samples issues, deadlines, costing issues.
  • Have an extensive understanding of costing and how to mitigate high costs from yarn suppliers and factories.
  • Review + land all cost sheets from factory while partnering with cost coordinator, production, tech, and design. Partner with cost coordinator to maintain wholesale chart through market.
  • Partner with merchandising to establish pricing strategy based on historical comps,
  • Handle invoicing for anything related to development yarns and samples (Proto & SMS)
  • Manage revised SRS + PR sample orders after market
  • Manage SRS pass off between Design and Tech/Production
  • Attend development fittings and communicate Creative Director’s comments to cross functional teams
  • Create and manage seasonal allocation chart, with PO#, factory allocation, fabric code
  • Create and manage seasonal sample/WIP tracking chart
  • Partner with design/trim team to source/ develop trims with our factories or in-house. Communicate trim orders accordingly
  • Manages all sales adds, partnering with design and Tech
  • Manage tracking, receiving, unpacking, photographing, steaming of all samples
  • Partner with production/external sustainability team to react to changing sustainability requirements
  • Partnering with production and merchandising, negotiate and maintain platformed greige bookings for core yarns (anticipate and react to shifts in fiber availability, tariffs, and sustainability standards)
  • Maintain accurate yarn data, color standards, and tracking in PLM systems.
  • Distribute company-wide color palette to suppliers seasonally. Partner with design to color match from stock yarns or DTM sample poundage
  • Analyze factory performance, Style/SKU count and adoption rate hindsight seasonally

$130,000 - $140,000 base salary (This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this NYC-based position. The base salary will depend on numerous factors such as: experience and qualifications for the role, experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to other AO employees.)
