Senior Manager of Data Infrastructure

Location: National

Who We Are and What We Believe:

For nearly three decades, Bottom Line has partnered with students get into college, graduate, and go far. Especially for youth from low-income families and potential first-gen-to-college youth—many of whom face systemic barriers to achieving their full potential—Bottom Line’s advisors have been relentless allies who partner with them to find the right college, persist to a degree, and successfully launch a career.

In our regions, we work through relationships with students, partners, and donors. Bottom Line's advisors serve as steadfast allies, guiding them through college selection, supporting them through their degree pursuits, and facilitating successful career launches. On average, graduates of Bottom Line achieve nearly double the income of their family in their initial post-college employment, a testament to the organization's profound impact that extends beyond individuals to families and entire communities.

In 2026 and with the goal of combining our complementary strengths of proven impact and scale, Bottom Line and Get Schooled merged. As one organization we now have a new north star: by 2030 Bottom Line will become America’s most impactful and scaled college access, success, and early career organization, with bachelor's degree attainment as our primary goal for youth. And although we primarily focus on youth from low-income families, by impact and scale we mean every student in America—through digital and/or in-person engagement—can access RCT-proven, best-in-class college access, success, and early career content, tools, and advising support.

When you join Bottom Line, you’ll find a rewarding, fast-paced, exceptional results-oriented environment. We build authentic relationships with our students and each other, and are both kind and humble in our efforts. We take our work seriously, maintain a sense of urgency, and we know that a focus on data, metrics, and continuous learning is integral to our continued success.

At Bottom Line, we also have a strong commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming, mission-focused environment. We aim to attract qualified candidates who hold these same values and help us further recognize and celebrate each of our unique qualities and life experiences. What You Will Do

Insert Job Summary Or Overview

Working on the Research, Analytics, Evaluation team and cross-functionally with IT, Programs, Development, and HR, the Senior Manager of Data Infrastructure will manage the maintenance, reliability, and evolution of Bottom Line’s data warehouse. This role is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s data platforms are stable, secure, and scalable, to enable consistent, high-quality reporting and analytics for several teams. The Senior Manager will own the day-to-day health of the data warehouse and pipelines, and drive data governance practices that ensure shared definitions, trusted data sources, and clear technical documentation. In addition to operational excellence, this role will shape and execute the data infrastructure roadmap—prioritizing enhancements, reducing technical debt, and strengthening systems to meet evolving organizational needs. The ideal candidate is both a systems thinker and a practical problem solver, able to create pipelines and reports and improve reliability and efficiency in the near term while also building toward a more scalable, well-governed, and strategically aligned data ecosystem.

Primary Responsibilities:

Database Management – 60%

  • Own the day-to-day health of our data warehouse (availability, performance, reliability) across production and non-production environments.
  • Manage the SQL servers, SQL databases, and ETL pipelines across Bottom Line products and reporting systems.
  • Lead performance monitoring and tuning (query optimization, indexing strategies, pipeline schedules, and sequencing) to ensure data availability meets expectations.
  • Serve as an escalation point for database incidents, coordinate troubleshooting across analysts, and lead post-incident root cause analysis and prevention.
  • Implement security controls for database access (least privilege, role-based access, auditability) in partnership with security/compliance stakeholders.
  • Drive capacity planning and cost management (storage growth, compute sizing, retention/archiving) to keep the platform scalable and cost-effective.
Data Governance for the Reporting Ecosystem – 30%:
  • Streamline and standardize SQL data views so downstream reporting and analytics use consistent, trusted logic.
  • Create SQL data views for emerging reporting and analytics needs and update existing SQL data views as priority metrics evolve.
  • Drive updates to data dictionaries and documentation based on data governance practices.
  • Define and enforce data standards (naming conventions, schema patterns, KPI definitions) to reduce metric drift and duplicated logic.
  • Coordinate cross-system change management (e.g., when fields change upstream) to prevent downstream sync failures and broken dashboards.
  • Implement data quality controls (validation checks, anomaly monitoring, reconciliation practices) across platforms and teams.
Data Strategy Planning – 10%:
  • Own the data infrastructure roadmap (quarterly priorities, modernization plan, technical debt, and reliability investments).
  • Lead cross-functional delivery for infrastructure initiatives (new pipelines, new environments, migrations), including planning, dependency management, and release of communication.
  • Coach and enable others through documentation, templates, and training, increasing self-service for analysts, and reducing avoidable tickets.
