Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Manager of General Accounting to provide leadership over the university's central general accounting function, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial operations across the institution.

The role reports to the Director of General Accounting and directs month-end and year-end closes, internal controls, and ad hoc reporting, while coordinating with departments to improve processes and implement technology solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
• Significant accounting experience with leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, accounting standards, and financial reporting practices.
• Strong understanding of accounting operations, internal controls, and automated enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the university's general accounting operations, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting.
• Strengthen internal controls to safeguard university assets.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and schedules.
• Analyze financial processes and system integrations for GAAP compliance and policy.
• Direct reconciliation of records with state accounting, banks, and key systems.
• Oversee posting and reconciliation of receipts and related activity for accurate reporting.
• Lead system initiatives including Banner Finance testing and implementation.
• Develop and communicate accounting policies and best practices across the university.
• Produce ad hoc financial reports for leadership and decision-making.
• Manage a team of accounting professionals, including supervisions of systems access and audits.
