Job summary

Schrödinger in Portland seeks a Senior Manager for External Reporting & Technical Accounting to own complex accounting matters, lead external reporting, and collaborate with Finance leadership and auditors. You will translate guidance into business solutions and help build strong financial infrastructure. The role requires deep U.S.

GAAP knowledge, SEC reporting experience, and collaboration across teams. A CPA is preferred, with Big 4 audit background highly regarded, and a focus on accuracy

Qualifications

  • Six years of SEC reporting experience or more.
  • Big 4 audit experience preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge and application of U.S. GAAP.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet software (Excel) and accounting ERP systems.
  • Experience with Workiva WDesk or similar software is a plus.
  • Experience with M&A transactions is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with external auditors for quarterly and annual audits and provide timely responses.
  • Lead or assist in monthly and quarterly close procedures, including preparation of SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, Proxy).
  • Research and document complex accounting issues and non-routine transactions with supporting memos.
  • Analyze new accounting pronouncements and assist in implementing them across the organization.
  • Ensure internal control compliance through documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare Audit Committee materials and required communications.

Senior Manager, External Reporting & Technical Accounting

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, External Reporting & Technical Accounting to join us in our mission to transform the discovery of therapeutics and materials.

As a member of our Accounting team, you will own the evaluation and documentation of complex accounting matters, lead external financial reporting activities, and partner closely with Finance leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This individual will play a critical role in translating complex accounting guidance into practical business solutions while helping the organization develop strong financial infrastructure.

What you’ll do:
  • Coordinate with external auditors for quarterly and annual audits, ensuring timely support and responses
  • Lead or assist in monthly and quarterly close procedures, including preparation of all SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, Proxy, etc.)
  • Research and document complex accounting issues and non-routine transactions, preparing position memos and supporting documentation (e.g., equity, debt, consolidation and business combinations)
  • Analyze new accounting pronouncements—including FASB pronouncements, SEC regulations, and tax laws—and assist in implementing them across the organization
  • Ensure internal control compliance through documentation of accounting policies and procedures, supporting audit readiness
  • Manage the preparation of Audit Committee materials and required communications
What you should have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA designation strongly preferred)
  • At least six years of relevant SEC reporting experience, Big 4 audit experience preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge and application of U.S. GAAP
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel) and accounting ERP systems
  • Experience with Workiva WDesk or similar software is a plus
  • Experience with M&A transactions is a plus

Estimated base salary range: $145,000 - $185,000. Actual compensation package is dependent on a number of factors, including, for example, experience, education, degrees held, market data, and business needs.
