Based at Cactus Mine in Casa Grande, AZ, you will lead the engineering execution for a major CAPEX project, overseeing EPCM consultants and design contractors to ensure technical integrity and safety in design. You will drive schedules, budgeting, and NAV optimization, coordinate with procurement, and lead risk management, change control, and design reviews across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Mining, or related).
• Minimum 12+ years in large-scale mining project execution and capital projects.
• Minimum 5+ years senior engineering leadership overseeing EPCM contractors.
• Experience managing EPCM consultants on mining or heavy industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of mine infrastructure, processing facilities, and site utilities.
• Proficient with Primavera P6/MS Project and cost/schedule control.
• Understanding of Safety in Design, HAZOP, and OSHA/MSHA regs.

Responsibilities

• Lead EPCM consultants and third-party contractors for basic and detailed engineering.
• Coordinate site-wide engineering scopes (crushing, leaching, SX/EW, tailings, utilities).

Purpose Of Role

The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for leading, supervising, and directing the overall engineering execution for the large CAPEX Cactus Mine Project, with primary oversight of key EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) consultants, engineering design contractors, and third-party technical specialists. Reporting to the Director, Engineering (or Head of Project - Cactus), this position ensures full technical integrity, quality assurance, safety in design, schedule adherence, scope control, and budget management across basic and detailed engineering design, trade-off studies, pre-feasibility/feasibility studies (PFS/FS), and construction handover.

Role Accountabilities

• Lead, oversee, and direct key EPCM consultants, engineering design firms, and third-party contractors executing basic and detailed engineering for the major CAPEX Cactus Mine Project.
• Direct and coordinate site-wide discipline engineering scopes including crushing plants, heap/vat leaching facilities, SX/EW processing facilities, tailings/waste management, power/water infrastructure, and mine facilities.
• Ensure Hudbay's engineering specifications, technical standards, safety requirements, and statutory regulations are fully incorporated into EPCM and third-party engineering design packages.
• Manage engineering schedules, procurement deliverables, and technical bid evaluations (TBA) to ensure timely support of project milestone schedules, long-lead equipment procurement, and construction activities.
• Drive Safety in Design (SiD), environmental stewardship, risk identification, and quality management systems across all engineering disciplines and contractor scopes.
• Oversee engineering scope control, change management, technical query resolutions, field-initiated queries, and design deviation requests across EPCM contractors and vendors.
• Manage trade-off studies, engineering reviews, value engineering programs, and net asset value (NAV) optimization for major project capital infrastructure.
• Maintain rigorous budget oversight, engineering cost control, man-hour performance tracking, and forecasting across EPCM and specialized consultant contracts.
• Participate in project tollgate reviews, PFS/FS reviews, and Project Management Plan (PMP) refresh cycles.
• Support contract package preparation, commercial bid evaluations (CBA), and contractor contract negotiations in coordination with Procurement and Project Services.

Minimum Qualifications And Education

• Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Mining, or Construction Engineering).
• Minimum 12+ years of progressive engineering experience in large-scale mining project execution, detailed design, and capital project engineering management.
• Minimum 5+ years of senior engineering leadership experience overseeing EPCM contractors on major mining or heavy industrial projects.
• Extensive expertise in managing major EPCM consultants and engineering design execution for large-scale CAPEX mining, hydrometallurgical, or heavy industrial capital projects.
• In-depth technical knowledge of mine infrastructure, mineral processing facilities (crushing, grinding, leaching, SX/EW), tailings/waste management, and site utilities.
• Strong proficiency in project management systems, scope and change control, cost forecasting, scheduling tools (Primavera P6/MS Project), and contract administration.
• Comprehensive understanding of Safety in Design principles, HAZOP, MSHA/OSHA safety regulations, and environmental permitting compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration (MBA).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent professional registration.
• Project Management Professional or equivalent certification.
• Direct experience managing EPCM consultants on copper, hydrometallurgical, SX/EW, or heap leach project developments.
