Job summary

The Position

This leadership role will support at site processes and safety program to ensure alignment with required codes, regulations and internal requirements. Accountable for attaining and sustaining a safe, secure and environmentally sound working environment for all employees, contingent workers and contractors throughout the site. Manage and develop efficient, reliable Environmental, Health, Safety processes that meet customer & regulatory requirements in a cost-effective manner in accordance with Novo Nordisk Way. Assist with Risk Management and continuously improve EHS processes with a Zero Harm goal.

Relationships

Reports to Senior Director or Director.

Essential Functions
  • Manage, motivate and develop the EHS team to support the site in all areas as related to each team members expertise and drive accountability and results according to NNWay support expansion projects in global and local initiatives, including writing/developing programs and training; where applicable
  • Collaborate and maintain cross-functional relationships/responsibilities with Global Security, Global EHS, local authorities and the NNPILP sites, where applicable
  • Responsible for the site Life Safety Systems and ISO14001 Environmental Management system; where applicable
  • Lead the role development and selection of core members to build the site EHS team and HSR
  • Ensure compliance to all OSHA regulations and all Federal, State and local safety standards
  • Responsible for the site ISO18001 OHSA Management System, OSHA 300 log and EHS Portal
  • Responsible for ISO 45001 program for Occupational Health & Safety
  • Lead development of site environmental & safety strategies
  • Monitor & report site performance within environment, health, & safety for the site
  • Responsible for site environmental permits (air, wastewater, stormwater, etc.)
  • Advise, assist, analyse and audit processes/practices to mitigate EHS hazards to include documenting findings and corrective actions in site Action Item registry
  • Responsible for site emergency response including equipment inspections & site drill coordination
  • Establish & maintain waste management programs & ensure site compliance with the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act requirements
  • Drive sustainability & Circular for Zero initiatives through global & local collaboration
  • Responsible for Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety programs and Emergency Response Team for the organization
  • Manage external vendors
  • Responsible to monitor & maintain safety systems
  • Collaborate with internal & external resources to improve ergonomic programs, ie: WorkWise, Ergo masterplan, etc.
  • Responsible for site GLP-1 security for all waste streams (including those for API)
  • Continues process improvement using cLEAN tools
  • Responsible for adherence to milestones, project portfolio, budget and audits
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements

May move equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. May be required to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May required corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require colour vision based on role. May require the ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protections.

Development Of People

Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures and Novo Nordisk Way.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a relevant field of study from an accredited university required
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of safety & environmental health experience, preferably in a large industrial manufacturing facility, required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of general state, federal & local safety & environmental regulations required
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills required
  • Good presentation & organizational skills preferred
  • Proven process improvement & problem-solving skills preferred
  • Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office preferred
