Job description

Join Capital One and work on data science solutions within the US Card organization, where your models support customer management use cases like real-time customer behavioral prediction and valuation forecasts. This onsite role is based in McLean, VA, with an annual salary range of $229,900 to $262,400, plus eligibility for performance-based incentives.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate with a cross-functional group of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver solutions customers love.
• Apply a broad technology stack, including Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, and Spark, to uncover insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data.
• Build machine learning models across the full lifecycle, from design and training to evaluation, validation, and implementation.
• Translate technical complexity into tangible business goals by using interpersonal skills to align with stakeholders.

Team and impact

As part of the US Card data science organization, the team focuses on customer management. You will help develop top-tier machine learning capabilities for business needs, working closely with partners across Upmarket, engineering, analysts, data science/quants, and product.

Required qualifications

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining (with the expectation the degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date), one of the following:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field) plus 7 years of experience performing data analytics; or
  • A Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics) (as specified in the posting).
• At least 2 years of experience using open source programming languages for large scale data analysis.
• At least 2 years of experience working with machine learning.
• At least 2 years of experience utilizing relational databases.

Skills and tools you’ll use

• Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, Scala, R, and open-source programming languages.
• Clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning, along with relational databases.

Preferred qualifications

• PhD in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 4 years of experience in data analytics.
• At least 1 year of experience working with AWS.
• At least 1 year of experience managing people.
• At least 5 years of experience in Python, Scala, or R for large scale data analysis.
• At least 5 years of experience with machine learning.

Compensation and incentives

McLean, VA: $229,900 - $262,400 (Sr Mgr, Data Science).
New York, NY: $250,800 - $286,200 (Sr Mgr, Data Science).

This role is also eligible for performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
