Role summary:

The Senior Manager, Data Science leads advanced analytical initiatives to drive business impact through robust modeling, data visualization, and strategic insights. This role oversees model development, validation, and deployment while ensuring alignment with business objectives. The position requires expertise in statistical methods, machine learning, and data quality, combined with strong stakeholder management and communication skills. The Senior Manager mentors teams, translates complex data into actionable recommendations, and collaborates across functions to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency within a dynamic, data-driven environment.

About the team:

The team provides strategic leadership for Walmart’s Last Mile Delivery and Physical Asset Deployment, focusing on network expansion, delivery speed, and operational efficiency. It leads data science initiatives for depot strategy, optimizing site selection, demand forecasting, and asset deployment to maximize business impact. The team drives enterprise-wide efforts to achieve consistent sub-30-minute delivery and supports Spark Network optimization through advanced analytics and strategic planning. Collaborating across functions, the team delivers scalable, data-driven solutions that enhance fulfillment efficiency, improve operational performance, and strengthen Walmart’s competitive position in the market.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the development, assessment, and validation of advanced analytical models using best practices to ensure accuracy, robustness, and business relevance.
• Design and implement data visualization solutions that effectively communicate complex insights to stakeholders and support decision-making.
• Translate business requirements into actionable data science projects aligned with strategic objectives and measurable outcomes.
• Guide and mentor team members on modeling techniques, feature engineering, and data quality standards to enhance overall capability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to identify data sources, ensure data integrity, and deploy scalable models into production environments.
• Drive continuous improvement by integrating emerging machine learning methods and optimizing model performance.

What you’ll bring:

• Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and advanced statistical methods to develop and validate complex models.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, Tableau, or PowerBI.
• Strong knowledge of model assessment techniques including ROC curve, Chi-square, and root mean square error.
• Ability to translate business requirements into actionable data science projects aligned with strategic goals.
• Expertise in stakeholder management and communicating technical insights to non-technical business audiences.
• Proven leadership in mentoring teams and driving continuous improvement in analytics and data quality.
• Solid understanding of business metrics, project management, and business intelligence applications.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include : Stock

Minimum Qualifications...

• Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field.
• Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.
• Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
