Job summary

Per Scholas is seeking a strategic communicator and exceptional writer to lead high‑impact communications that strengthen our culture, elevate our national brand, and support organizational leadership.

You’ll partner across Marketing & Communications, Development, Government Relations, Talent Solutions, Operations, and People to shape how employees, partners, funders, policymakers, employers, and the media understand Per Scholas.

Qualifications

  • 4-6+ years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing communications.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to simplify complex topics for various audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills.
  • Experience advising senior leaders on communications strategy.
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead internal communications strategy and messaging to inform employees about priorities, strategy, changes, and culture.
  • Develop messaging frameworks and integrated plans for initiatives, change, partnerships and campaigns.
  • Manage internal communications calendar across newsletters, announcements, leadership updates, All Hands, Slack, and other channels.
  • Partner with leaders to ensure timely, consistent communications aligned with priorities.
  • Write and edit communications across formats including articles, presentations, newsletters, press releases, blogs, FAQs, and marketing materials.
  • Prepare leaders for media interviews and conferences with briefing materials and interview guidance.
  • Support conference strategy with proposals, content, and run-of-show documents.
  • Translate complex workforce, AI, and policy topics into external communications.
  • Create social media content reflecting priorities and thought leadership.
  • Monitor media coverage and brand sentiment to identify opportunities and protect Per Scholas brand.
  • Assist with media relations, reputation management, and crisis communications as needed.

Per Scholas is seeking a strategic communicator and exceptional writer to lead high-impact communications that strengthen our culture, elevate our national brand, and support organizational leadership.

In this role, you’ll partner across Marketing & Communications, Development, Government Relations, Talent Solutions, Operations, and People to shape how employees, partners, funders, policymakers, employers, and the media understand Per Scholas.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re a strategic thinker who can turn complex ideas into compelling stories, lead integrated communications campaigns, anticipate emerging issues, and manage multiple high-profile initiatives simultaneously.

What You’ll Do
Lead Internal Communications
  • Own Per Scholas’ internal communications strategy, ensuring employees understand our priorities, strategy, organizational changes, and culture.
  • Develop messaging frameworks and integrated communications plans for strategic initiatives, organizational change, partnerships, and campaigns.
  • Manage the internal communications calendar across newsletters, announcements, leadership updates, All Hands, Slack, and other channels.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to ensure communications are timely, consistent, and aligned with organizational priorities.
Support External Communications
  • Write and edit communications across multiple formats, including presentations, newsroom articles, social media content, newsletters, press releases, reports, blogs, FAQs, leadership communications, and marketing materials.
  • Prepare organizational leaders for media interviews, speaking engagements, and conferences by developing briefing materials, messaging, and interview preparation.
  • Support conference strategy by writing speaker proposals, presentation content, moderator guides, and run-of-show documents.
  • Translate complex workforce, AI, and policy topics into compelling communications for external audiences.
  • Create social media content that reflects organizational priorities and thought leadership.
  • Monitor media coverage, brand sentiment, and emerging trends to identify opportunities, elevate organizational visibility, and protect the Per Scholas brand.
  • Support media relations, reputation management, and crisis communications as needed.

  • Deliver communications that help employees understand organizational priorities and change.
  • Become a trusted advisor for high-impact communications across the organization.
What You’ll Bring

  • Familiarity with project management tools (Asana), collaboration platforms (Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365), and CRM/marketing platforms such as Salesforce and HubSpot.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $60,000-$70,000. Final salary offers are determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s geographic location, specialized experience, and alignment with the role’s senior-level requirements.

  • Holidays & PTO: Full-Time Per Scholas team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off each year through a mix of holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time! All employees are eligible for Holiday pay upon hire (a total of 22 holidays annually, including a week off for Independence day and a week before the New Year). Full-Time Benefits Eligible employees also receive 80 Wellness Hours to use for Sick, Safe, or Personal reasons and accrue Vacation at a rate of 8 hours at the beginning of every month, supporting rest, recharge, and work-life balance. Vacation accruals increase with tenure. Part-time employees are afforded time off on a prorated basis and in accordance with local requirements.
  • Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Benefit eligible employees can choose from multiple medical plans through Cigna or Kaiser Permanente (where available), with options to fit your needs. Eligible employees also have access to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) that reimburses eligible out-of-pocket expenses, up to $4,000 for individuals and $8,000 for families.
  • Dental and Vision Insurance: Eligible employees can select from two dental plan options and a vision plan. Employees who waive medical coverage receive employer paid dental and vision premiums.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a current 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%, eligible employees are offered entry and full vesting after 90 days with the company.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Free, confidential, 24/7 access to counseling, legal support, and financial resources for employees and their household members.
  • Parental Leave: Eligible employees are offered up to 6 weeks of 100% paid parental leave to support employees as they welcome a new child and bond with their family.
