Job summary

Beacon Hill Staffing Group is seeking a Senior Manager, Application Development to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale applications, APIs, and cloud solutions in a fully remote role. You will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management across a 5–7 engineer team.

In this role, you will drive architecture, oversee RESTful services and microservices on AWS, mentor developers, ensure CI/CD and DevSecOps practices, and partner with product and architecture stakeholders

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering and development.
• 5+ years of technical leadership and/or engineering management experience.
• Strong hands-on architecture and solution design experience.
• Proven track record with Java and Spring Boot.
• Extensive experience with REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise integrations.
• Strong cloud experience on AWS and event-driven architectures.
• Experience leading distributed engineering teams and applying Agile/DevOps practices.

Senior Manager, Application Development

Location

Fully Remote

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Application Development to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale applications, APIs, integrations, and cloud-based solutions for a large enterprise organization.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role, approximately 70% technical / 30% management, ideal for someone who can operate as both a solution architect/technical lead and an engineering manager. You'll provide technical direction, own solution design and architecture, drive projects through execution, and lead a team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise applications and modernization initiatives.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership across Java, APIs, microservices, AWS, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Develop high-level and low-level solution designs and ensure successful technical implementation.
• Lead and mentor a team of approximately 5-7 engineering resources.
• Drive projects and larger technical initiatives from design through production delivery.
• Partner with product, architecture, engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Lead development of cloud applications using modern AWS architecture patterns.
• Drive adoption of microservices, event‑driven architecture, reusable services, and API-first design.
• Oversee enterprise API and integration design, development, security, and governance.
• Support adoption of AI-assisted development tools and AI-powered applications/workflows.
• Champion Agile, DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, quality engineering, and observability best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering/application development experience.
• 5+ years of technical leadership and/or engineering management experience.
• Strong hands‑on architecture and solution design experience.
• Strong development background with Java and Spring Boot.
• Extensive experience with REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise integrations.
• Strong experience designing and implementing cloud solutions on AWS.
• Experience with event‑driven and distributed application architectures.
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to lead complex technical programs from architecture/design through execution.
• Experience leading distributed engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of Agile delivery and modern software engineering practices.
• Exposure to AI-assisted software development, AI agents, or intelligent workflow automation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience within a highly regulated enterprise environment.
• Experience with healthcare-related technology or platforms is a plus.
• Experience with AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Amazon Q, or similar technologies.
