Job summary

Capital One seeks an AI Engineering Leader to drive development of AI-powered products and to guide the design, testing, deployment, and support of foundational AI systems. You will shape the technical vision, optimize LLM workloads, and steer the team toward scalable, responsible AI production.

You will partner with engineers, researchers, and product managers to advance AI roadmaps, recruit top talent, and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation in AI technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in CS/AI/EE/CE with 4+ years of AI/ML experience.
• At least 1 year of people leadership experience; 3 years leading an engineering team preferred.
• 6 years deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms (preferred).
• Experience developing AI/ML algorithms using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Golang (preferred).
• Strong interest in staying on the cutting edge of AI research and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products
• Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components, including foundation model training, LLM inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability
• Make build-vs-buy decisions across open-source and SaaS AI technologies
• Invent and introduce LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, and throughput of production AI systems
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master's degree in those fields plus at least 4 years of experience
• At least 1 year of people leadership experience
• 3 years of experience managing and leading an engineering team (preferred)
• 6 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (preferred)
• Experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Golang (preferred)
• Passion for staying abreast of the latest AI research and AI systems and applying novel techniques in production (preferred)
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (preferred)
