Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Senior Manager to lead a team of experienced Manufacturing Engineers in early‑lifecycle production planning for spaceflight products.

You will drive strategic manufacturing plans, balance priorities, and mentor engineers across facilities, with hands‑on involvement in design, analysis, equipment operation, and manufacturing execution systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience managing people, projects, or programs.
  • Strong coordination, personnel, and project management skills.
  • Experience in hardware manufacturing (castings, forgings, AM components, welding, machining, NDT, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing, MES/PLM).
  • Proven experience developing new manufacturing processes and improving existing ones.
  • Ability to operate, lead, and progress in ambiguous environments.
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management.

Blue Origin's vision to build the road to space involves a range of critical products. We are in search of a Manufacturing Engineering Senior Manager who will lead a skilled team of experienced Manufacturing Engineers in providing critical early‑lifecycle production planning expertise to the teams designing these products. You will work with innovative processes for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of manufacturing engineering. Day to day responsibilities will include Strategic Manufacturing Plan development and maintenance, balancing priorities between a range of valuable tasks, managing all Work Order Authoring, and provide Mentoring and Career Path Development to your enrolled employees. We put a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing and hands‑on technical ability, as our engineers (and you as their manager) are directly involved with design, analysis, equipment operation, trouble‑shooting, and active engagement with engineering.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Enable the success of a team comprised of high-impact Manufacturing Engineers
  • Establish roles, responsibilities, and accountability for all team members
  • Ensure workflow and priorities are balanced across the team
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and grow the team by recruiting and hiring top performing manufacturing engineers (as needed)
  • Coordinate and work closely with program managers, operations leaders, and Integrated Product Team Leads to meet design, build, and test objectives.
  • Support the team in applying robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals and processes in support of fabrication processes
  • Create required data gathering tools for tracking and improving the team performance
  • Review and understand companywide processes and command media to ensure proper compliance
  • Help your team define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight
  • Promote DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Engage in Manufacturing Bill of Material (BOM) creation and maintenance and Product Structure definition
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and support with engineers to develop goals, career paths, and ensure professional development
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • Experience managing people, projects, or programs
  • Strong coordination, personnel, and project management skills
  • Experience in hardware manufacturing (i.e. castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software)
  • Proven experience and successful track record of developing new manufacturing processes and continuously improving existing processes
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • Understanding of entire product lifecycle management
  • 7+ years of direct manufacturing and/or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Proficiency in engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Ability to execute effective written and verbal communication at all levels of the organization, including C-Suite leaders
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • Familiarity with FAA CFR's, industry methodologies, OSHA requirements
  • Experience developing, writing, and updating operating procedures
  • Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, MSG-3, 5-S, FMEA, PRA, and lean process awareness
  • Certification and/or training in various human factor / human performance skills
  • Experience in new, startup, or ambiguous operational environments
  • Proficiency in business and engineering software (i.e. MSOffice, Windchill, PLM, etc)
  • Experience with critical operations where real‑time decision‑making affects success
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven track record driving sophisticated projects with minimal guidance

Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $171,093.00 - $239,529.15
