Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:

The Senior Manager, Accounting plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the organization’s accounts payable operations and ensuring financial integrity across systems and processes. This individual will support the organization’s annual audit and tax preparation, lead elements of the budgeting process, and serve as a strategic partner to other departments by delivering accurate, timely financial insights. The ideal candidate will also lead special initiatives such as process automation, systems implementation, and operational documentation to drive efficiency and scalability.

What You’ll Do:
  1. Management of Accounts Payable:
    1. Review and approve all invoices and related documentation for payments including manager approvals and correct coding.
    2. Maintain various payment types and timely processes including checks, ACH/EFT, bank drafts, and corporate credit card payments.
    3. Oversee and maintain staff credit card processing, including coding, data entry and payment process of monthly invoice.
  2. Financial and Program Reporting:
    1. Assist and provide backup documentation for grant reporting and submission.
    2. Assist in preparing schedules and review for external audit.
    3. Assist in preparing schedules and reviewing annual tax returns.
    4. Research questions and provide additional information to departments as needed.
  3. System changes and process automation:
    1. Manage system changes and or conversation/ implementation and upgrading of the system.
    2. Develop and implement system controls for ensuring data integrity.
    3. Develop proper operational, data documentation, and troubleshooting procedures.
    4. Liaison with accounting software, system vendors, consultants, and sales points.
    5. Prepare and distribute reports to assigned departments.
  4. Leads a Successful Team:
    1. Execute department strategy by translating goals and initiatives into actionable plans for the team.
    2. In collaboration with the Controller, lead operations, ensuring team members are productive, engaged, and meeting performance expectations.
    3. Provide hands-on support to team members, guiding them through challenges and offering real-time coaching and feedback.
    4. Monitor and evaluate team performance, implementing improvement plans and ensuring adherence to organizational standards.
    5. Facilitate communication between staff and upper management, ensuring clarity on expectations, priorities, and progress.
    6. Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members, ensuring they are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
    7. Foster a positive team environment, promoting collaboration, accountability, and strong morale within the department.
    8. Track and report team metrics to department leadership, identifying areas for improvement and success in meeting goals.

What You’ll Need:

Skills and experience your resume should demonstrate:

  1. Possess an extensive knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and best practices in nonprofit accounting.
  2. Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, and financial planning to support organizational goals and decision-making.
  3. Familiarity with audit processes, internal controls, compliance requirements, and regulatory standards relevant to nonprofit organizations.
  4. Proficiency in preparing financial statements, budget variance analysis, cash flow management, and financial performance reporting.
  5. Experience in managing grants, tracking grant expenditures, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and reporting to funders.
  6. Ability to lead and supervise accounting teams, provide guidance, training, and support to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data.
  7. Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems, as well as advanced Excel skills for data analysis, modeling, and reporting.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, external auditors, donors, and regulatory agencies.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify financial issues, propose solutions, and implement improvements in accounting processes and controls.
  10. Commitment to ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability in financial management practices, adhering to legal and ethical standards.
