Job summary

University of Virginia’s External Relations seeks a Director of Development for Madison House to lead major gifts, annual giving, and donor engagement. You will manage a portfolio of high-net-worth donors, cultivate relationships, and coordinate strategies with university leadership to advance Madison House’s student-led service mission.

The role requires eight+ years in fundraising, with a track record of securing major gifts, and the ability to travel nationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least eight years of progressively responsible fundraising experience including major gifts and leadership annual giving.
• Proven success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage a portfolio of major-gift donors (usually $100,000+) and advance gifts to meet annual and long-range goals.
• Develop and execute individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies with UVA leadership.
• Travel nationally to identify and engage alumni, parents, friends, and community partners.
• Collaborate to identify philanthropic priorities and secure support for student programs, endowment growth, and facilities.
• Lead annual giving strategy in partnership with UVA teams, coordinating messaging, segmentation, and donor engagement.
• Maintain donor relations and accurate documentation in Salesforce as per University policies.
• Represent Madison House and the Student and Family Philanthropy team at events and meetings.
