Job Description

The Senior Maintenance Technician (1st shift) provides informal leadership in the assigned area by supporting effective troubleshooting, repair, and safe operation of equipment. It includes on‑call support, escalation management, and oversight of defect tag processes. The position requires daily participation in TMS meetings and coordination of maintenance activities with the core team. The leader coaches and develops maintenance technicians while ensuring coverage for absent team members. The role also leads and participates in scheduling, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives. Strict adherence to LOTO, 5S, GMP, and GDP standards is expected, along with performing additional duties necessary to support business needs. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the informal leader for the assigned area, providing expert guidance to ensure efficient machine troubleshooting and repair.
  • Provide on‑call leadership support and escalation management to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Lead and oversee defect tag management, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation.
  • Attend daily TMS meetings and communicate relevant updates and actions.
  • Coordinate all maintenance activities within the process area, working closely with the core team to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and hands‑on training to maintenance technicians to support skill development, performance, and technical readiness.
  • Ensure coverage and assume responsibilities when team members are absent to maintain seamless operations.
  • Actively participate in and lead cross‑functional teams focused on scheduling, process improvement, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Uphold and model adherence to company Golden Rules, including:
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • 5S workplace organization
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
    • Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives intended to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve technician capability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the business and ensure operational continuity.
  • This role does not include formal people management responsibilities such as performance management, discipline, or hiring decisions.
Education:

High School diploma/GED required

Associate's degree or equivalent technical training preferred in a mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance field.

Experience:

2 years mechanical technical experience (required)

5 or more years of progressively complex maintenance experience, including demonstrated peer leadership (preferred).
