Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician in McLean, VA to ensure efficient operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across assigned properties. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, routine rounds, painting, and housekeeping, with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years' experience in commercial property maintenance, valid licenses where required, and proficiency in Outlook/Excel/Word.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Graduate of an apprentice program or trade school preferred.
  • 5+ years of related work experience operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial property setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all plumbing, electrical, or HVAC requirements of the building(s).
  • Maintain heating equipment, chillers, DX units, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV, and other mechanical/pneumatic equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust mechanical/pneumatic equipment, steam stations, control gauges, distributor panels, valves, thermostats, diffusers, and other necessary systems.
  • Verify field conditions and perform repairs or adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor Energy Management systems.
  • Repair doors, ceilings, hand railings, floors, and other general repairs, adjustments and installations.
  • Repair plumbing fixtures (e.g., water closets, urinals, flushing assemblies, lavatories).
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties per C&W standards, manufacturer recommendations, and industry best practices, including filter changes, coil cleaning, condenser flushing, bearing greasing, belt inspection, motor bearing replacement, pallet alignment, chemical treatment of heating/cooling water, and annual inspections.
  • Inspect engine room equipment, fan room equipment, cooling towers, motors, pumps, electric rooms, backup generators, fire pumps, sump pumps, and ejector pumps; replace lamps and light fixtures, reinstall signage, and ensure rooms are clear of obstructions.
  • Check emergency exit signs and lights, ensuring clear access to emergency stairs and exits; perform fire and life safety inspections per NFPA, local jurisdiction, and C&W standards.
  • Document and report activities to supervisor.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agencies, and company directives related to building operations and safety.
  • Complete all required C&W Safety Training as scheduled annually.
  • Adhere to C&W Uniform Dress Code while working and maintain a neat appearance outside working hours.

Job Description Summary

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Appropriate license/permit for trade as required (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician License, City Licenses, Refrigeration Certificate of Fitness, High Pressure Boiler License, High Pressure Steam Operator)
  • Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs may be required depending on market licensure
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record (periodic checks where applicable)
  • Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Experience in operation, maintenance and basic repair of HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, water systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems, techniques and operations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building system operations, maintenance, and repair
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and requires regular travel between properties under varying weather conditions.

Physical Demands
  • Stoop, stand, climb, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pumps, tools, ladders)
  • Crouch and reach to install or move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs
  • Move between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $24.85 - $29.24 per hour.
