Job summary

AstraZeneca is seeking a maintenance leader for GMP biopharma environments with a focus on cleanrooms and regulated utilities. You will lead preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex equipment, and mentor teammates in collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering.

The role requires 6–10+ years in GMP biopharma or ATMP maintenance, strong knowledge of HVAC, utilities, and GMP practices, plus CMMS/BMS experience and a commitment to EHS and GDP standards.

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years in GMP biopharma or cell therapy/ATMP maintenance.
• High school diploma or technical training; an associate degree is a plus.
• Experience with HVAC in controlled environments and regulated utilities.
• Familiarity with GMP/GDP, deviations/CAPA, validation/qualification for utilities.
• CMMS/BMS/EMS proficiency and digital workflow experience.
• Able to read P&IDs and schematic diagrams; basic PLC/HMI knowledge.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and mentoring abilities.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in PPE.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance on cleanroom HVAC and critical utilities.
• Operate boilers, steam generators, cooling towers, and water treatment systems.
• Support cleanroom integrity (HEPA, differential pressure, temp/RH) and lead RCA/CAPA.
• Calibrate instruments and contribute to equipment qualification (URS/IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Maintain documentation in CMMS with GDP compliance and support EHS (LOTO, OSHA/NFPA 70E).

Job description

There are 2 positions available, 1 for first and 1 for 2nd shifts: 1) First shifts are 5am-1:30pm and 7am-3:30pm 2) Second Shifts are 1pm-9:30pm and 2pm-10:30pm You’ll lead maintenance execution, troubleshoot complex utilities and equipment, and mentor teammates—all while partnering closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering.

What you’ll do

Preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance on cleanroom HVAC, BMS/EMS, process equipment (incubators, biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, freezers, pumps, single‑use systems), and critical utilities (clean steam, chilled water, gases, compressed air). Operate and troubleshoot boilers, steam generators, cooling towers/chillers, and water treatment systems. Support cleanroom integrity (HEPA, pressure differentials, temp/RH), lead root cause analysis and CAPA, calibrate instruments, and contribute to equipment qualification (URS/IQ/OQ/PQ). Own documentation in CMMS with impeccable GDP, and champion EHS (LOTO, permits, OSHA/NFPA 70E).

What You’ll Bring

• Experience: 6–10+ years in GMP biopharma or cell therapy/ATMP maintenance, including cleanrooms and regulated utilities.
• Education: High School Diploma/GED, associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics/Industrial Maintenance or equivalent military/apprenticeship training; or related field a plus.
• Technical expertise: HVAC for controlled environments, clean steam/chilled water/process gases, electrical systems up to site-authorized voltage, reading P&IDs/schematics/single-line diagrams, basic PLC/HMI.
• GMP savvy: cGMP, GDP, deviations/CAPA, validation/qualification for utilities.
• Systems: CMMS, BMS/EMS; comfortable with digital workflows and e-logbooks.
• Soft skills: Clear communication, teamwork, prioritization, and mentoring.
• Nice to have: Vibration/thermography basics, manufacturer training on chillers/controls, GxP/cleanroom coursework, safety certifications.
• Work environment: Cleanrooms and mechanical spaces; lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, wear PPE, and support an on-call rotation.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $71,749.60 - 107,624.40. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles.
