Alignerr is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Expert to lead the creation of high-fidelity reasoning traces that guide LLMs to think step by step, plan tool use, and make decisions in complex tasks. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for senior ML practitioners who understand model behavior at a deep level.

You will author traces, document structured decision flows, review and improve existing data, and develop data strategies that improve model reliability.

We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Experts to lead the creation of high-fidelity reasoning traces — structured, expert-crafted data that teaches LLMs how to think through complex, real-world problems step by step. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for senior ML practitioners who understand model behavior at a deep level and want to apply that expertise to work that genuinely matters.

What You'll Do

• Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture how an LLM should plan, use tools, and make decisions across sophisticated technical tasks
• Design and document structured decision-making flows that reflect real-world problem-solving at a senior engineering level
• Review and improve existing traces to ensure logical coherence, optimal planning, and accurate tool-use documentation
• Develop data strategies that help AI models navigate intricate, multi-step scenarios with greater reliability
• Apply architectural-level insights to ensure the reasoning data you produce drives meaningful improvements in model behavior

Who You Are

• Experienced machine learning practitioner with deep familiarity with LLMs, model reasoning, and training methodologies
• Skilled at decomposing complex technical problems into clear, structured, and logical steps
• Comfortable working with advanced evaluation frameworks and understanding how training data shapes model outputs
• Detail-oriented and rigorous — you hold your work to a high standard and it shows
• Self-directed and productive working independently in an async, remote environment

Nice to Have

• Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or AI evaluation systems
• Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level), demonstrating elite-level understanding of model performance and feature engineering
• Familiarity with agent-based LLM architectures or tool-augmented reasoning systems
• Background in AI safety, alignment research, or RLHF pipelines
