Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Low Voltage Estimator to support the continued expansion of their data center and mission-critical infrastructure business. In this role, you will lead the development of complete, precise, and competitive estimates for complex low voltage construction projects from initial bid review through project award and operational handoff. You will evaluate large drawing packages, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, establish labor productivity factors, solicit vendor pricing, and identify critical project risks to ensure every bid is strategically priced and operationally sound.

In addition to project-level estimating, this role serves as a key driver of internal capabilities by helping standardize estimating frameworks, labor unit libraries, and production benchmarks as the company grows. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, Project Management, field leadership, manufacturers, and executive leaders to align bid strategies with operational execution. The ideal candidate is more than a pricing specialist; they are a construction‑minded expert who understands how systems are physically installed and can translate complex specifications into detailed, executable project plans.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Review complete project documentation including drawings, specifications, addenda, bid instructions, and safety requirements to establish project scope.
• Develop detailed, complete estimates for complex data center, mission-critical, structured cabling, and commercial low voltage projects.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from construction drawings using Bluebeam and standard estimating software.
• Create comprehensive material bills of material for copper, fiber, containment, pathways, racks, cabinets, hardware, labeling, and testing.
• Estimate required project labor using established units, historical productivity rates, field conditions, and schedule requirements.
• Evaluate project schedules to determine necessary field staffing levels, supervision, equipment, and resource requirements.
• Draft detailed scopes of work, bid assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, and supporting proposal documentation.
• Identify scope gaps, design discrepancies, constructability issues, and risk factors prior to proposal submission.
• Attend pre‑bid site walks and project planning meetings to evaluate existing field conditions.
• Solicit and negotiate competitive project‑specific pricing from manufacturers, distributors, and vendors.
• Track market conditions, material costs, labor rates, and industry trends to maintain accurate estimating databases.
• Partner with Operations and field leadership to validate production assumptions, labor capabilities, and project execution strategies.
• Align with Sales and executive leadership to establish strategic bid pricing while maintaining appropriate project risk controls and margins.
• Assemble final bid packages including pricing, scopes, safety plans, schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Lead internal bid review meetings to present methodology, risk evaluations, assumptions, and pricing recommendations.
• Address customer clarification requests, bid revisions, value engineering options, and scope negotiations.
• Conduct comprehensive project handoff meetings with Project Management and Operations teams upon contract award.
• Assist Project Management in identifying, documenting, and pricing project change orders during construction.
• Analyze estimated performance against actual field results post-project to refine company labor standards and estimating precision.
• Maintain and expand the client’s labor unit libraries, production factors, templates, and standard estimating procedures.
• Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and training to junior estimators, quoters, and project team members.

Required Experience/Skills

• 10+ years of experience within the low voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, or technology construction sector.
• Extensive track record independently estimating complex low voltage and structured cabling construction projects.
• Direct experience estimating large data center, mission‑critical, or major technology infrastructure builds.
• Deep understanding of Division 27 telecommunications systems, inside/outside plant infrastructure, and construction documentation.
• Thorough knowledge of copper and fiber systems, high-density fiber, pathway systems, grounding, testing, and labeling.
• Proven proficiency using Bluebeam Revu for digital takeoffs and Microsoft Excel/Office for bid development.
• Strong knowledge of BICSI design standards and industry installation guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to build labor estimates, evaluate project schedules, and determine staffing and equipment needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present effectively to executives, general contractors, and vendors.
• Capability to manage multiple complex, concurrent estimates and meet strict bid deadlines.

Nice-to-Haves

• Active Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
• BICSI or other relevant telecommunications industry credentials.
• Experience estimating large-scale data center projects valued at $1M+ or multimillion-dollar mission‑critical packages.
• Experience supporting hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center buildouts.
• Prior hands‑on experience in field leadership, project management, or superintendent roles within low voltage construction.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD software.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
