Job summary

Merrill Gardens at The University is seeking a Senior Living Sous Chef to support residents with high-quality, scratch cooking in a senior living setting. The ideal candidate has at least five years of experience in quality food preparation and strong skills in a high-volume, fine dining environment.

Proficiency with MS Outlook and Word is preferred. The role includes working under the Executive Chef and contributing to a caring, family-oriented team committed to resident wellness and dignity.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in quality food preparation.
• Experience in scratch cooking in high-volume, fine dining settings.
• Culinary training certification or degree preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Outlook and MS Word.

Responsibilities

• Oversee dining service in absence of the Executive Chef.
• Maintain documentation of temperature charts and records.
• Complete all food production records in accordance with policies.
• Prepare food items following procedures set by the Executive Chef.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Our Sous Chefs are responsible for:

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality food preparation
• Experience in scratch cooking in a high volume, fine dining setting.
• Maintains documentation of all temperature charts and records.
• In absence of the Executive Chef, oversees directs all dining service Team Members assigned during a shift.
• Accurately completes all food production records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Prepares food items following proper procedures specified by Executive Chef.
• Other duties as assigned.

If you are someone with:

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality food preparation
• Experience in scratch cooking in a high volume, fine dining setting
• Proficiency in computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, etc.
• Culinary training Certification or degree in culinary preferred.

Actual pay rate within stated pay range is determined based on relevant factors in compliance with state and local wage laws. This range reflects what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of materials up to 50 lbs. Regular bending, lifting, and reaching are also part of daily responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
