Job summary

Piper Shores in Scarborough, ME is seeking a qualified Recreation Therapist to plan, develop and implement person-centered programs for residents. This full-time role focuses on activities that enhance physical, emotional, cognitive and social well-being, following the APIE process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation with CTRS eligibility or CTRS.
• Experience in a therapeutic recreation program.
• Ability to sit for CTRS exam or have CTRS.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of current state and federal regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Flexible/rotating schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
• Vaccination against Influenza and required Public Health vaccines; TB test on hire.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement engaging therapeutic recreation programs tailored to individual resident needs and interests.
• Conduct assessments to determine residents’ abilities, preferences, and goals for recreation therapy.
• Collaborate with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams to create personalized activity plans.
• Complete resident documentation and life stories; attend resident/family conferences.
• Encourage resident participation and respect individual choices and preferences.
• Facilitate group and one-on-one activities to promote socialization and cognitive/physical well-being.
• Escort residents for on-site and off-site programs.
• Maintain progress records and adapt activities as needed.
• Uphold residents’ dignity, autonomy, and well-being.
• Prepare and format life stories and document minutes of resident councils.
• Communicate with Piper Shores staff regarding concerns or incidents.
• Assist with transportation as needed.
