Job summary

Florida Gulf Coast University is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer III to lead and manage the design, installation, and maintenance of our cross-platform infrastructure. The role emphasizes automation, security configurations, and collaboration across departments to ensure reliable services.

You will work in a Kubernetes/VMware hybrid environment, focusing on performance, backups, and compliance while mentoring junior staff and driving best practices across the campus IT landscape.

Qualifications

• Requires nine years of related full-time experience or, alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field and five years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
• Professional full-time experience with Linux based enterprise systems and applications.
• Experience with large enterprise computing environments that include multiple site locations.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, installation, operation, support, upgrades, and maintenance of infrastructure in a Linux and Windows server environment.
• Automate infrastructure using Ansible and Red Hat Satellite.
• Administer application security and configurations.
• Coordinate application testing with functional areas.
• Analyze infrastructure performance and resolve problems or make recommendations.
• Lead troubleshooting of infrastructure issues including server hardware, network, and storage.
• Ensure data recoverability with backups and archives; conduct routine audits for standards compliance.
• Maintain licensing and maintenance agreements; escalate as needed.
• Serve as escalation point for Systems Engineers and document processes.
